Need a Little "Fun Money"? Donate Plasma - Blog Entry

01 Nov 2009 06:28 PM

For the record, unless your first name happens to be "God", you don't "know it all" about anything.

Blood and blood products used for human transfusion can only com from volunteer, UNPAID donors. If you choose to sell your plasma to benefit pharmaceutical companies, and moreover cosmetic companies, fine, but don't kid yourself into thinking you're doing anyone a great service. A lot of paid "donations" aren't even used in this country. That's basic knowledge if you work in a place like this....what do you do there? Clean the place after it closes? You cannot transfuse a patient with blood or blood products (just in case you're that dim, plasma and platelets fall under "blood products") that have been paid for. It's illegal.

To whoever said that blood donation benefits everyone but the donor, for all those supposed titles you carry, you are apparently not very well educated. Why don't you go look into the health benefits of whole blood donation.

Freebies at Target - Blog Entry

I do have one question though...how much do you spend on newspapers? I'm genuinely curious...the coupon thing has never worked out as wonderfully for me as it does for you and many others (compounded with the fact that NOBODY here doubles coupons--EVER)

Need a Little "Fun Money"? Donate Plasma - Blog Entry

Seriously? I'm sorry, but as a phlebotomist who spent a lot of hours explaining to people why they should DONATE platelets and plasma, this sickens me. Why not call it what it is? SELLING your plasma, and generally to companies who use those potentially life saving components for research, tends to be for cosmetics more than anything. So when there are fewer donors to help the premie babies, the patients with Leukemia, and the burn victims, we can thank these places that PAY to BUY components from people who can't be bothered with one little selfless act. But if nothing else, seriously, stop calling it a DONATION. If you are PAID for it, it's not a DONATION.

All I Want for Christmas is a New Photo Printer - Blog Entry

I will say this, I LOVE the Pixma series printers. I am on my second one, the first was the ip2000 and now I have the ip1800 (seems like it should be a step down, but it's not lol). And unlike those evil Lexmarks you mentioned, the ink is really reasonable. I have to put it out there though, don't EVER buy recycled, refilled, reused, or generic inks. These printers seem to be VERY persnickety, and don't react well. That is why my first one bit the dust, and a very good friend of mine also lost her beloved Pixma series printer for the same reason.

As for the other gadget, it's an interesting tool, I can see it being great for point and shoot cameras....I think I would worry about putting my heavy and EXPENSIVE dSLR on it though (I practically had to sell my own soul to get my hubby to agree to that purchase!). I just use my remote shutter release cable, which was purchased for about $8.00 including shipping on ebay! I usually have my tripod with me anyhow, but even if I don't, I can set the camera on something, and voila!

You never do know, they keep changing the date on the cruise/passport issue lol. Personally, I would get one regardless, they change their mind so often!

Test the dryer sheet trick before you go out! On some people, it can make their hair look really oily and stringy. I personally prefer static eliminating spray (near the starch in the laundry aisle) in a pinch, but generally, I just stick to products like Frizzease, or similar.

A Restocking WHAT? - Blog Entry

15 Dec 2006 08:12 PM

I agree with yout that shoppers should absolutely read the return policy CAREFULLY before buying things. Basically, at most stores, restocking fees are usually found in departments where things are common bought, used, then returned. Items that will likely have to be marked down 15% or so to be re-sold. That's what happens at Target most times anyhow, with returned items such as the ones mentioned above. Lawn and garden, hot tubs, electronics...all these things usually bear restocking fees. As long as they are returned unused, and in perfect condition (and for items that come in those hard plastic packaging, this means UNOPENED as well!)...you can usually avoid a restocking fee.

However, don't allow them to charge you a restocking fee if you are returning something that is broken! That is a sham...the store will return it to the vendor for credit or replacement anyhow!

Do You Forget to Pay Your Bills? - Blog Entry

I've found that online calendar services, like the one google offers, or others, are very helpful for me, I have them send reminders a few days before I need to pay the bills (I pay almost all of them online).
