I agree with Kara. This is not a diss on teen mothers. Adoption IS a good thing. I realize that many who participate in support groups don't see it as such but may I suggest that not all adoptees and/or birth mothers are in support groups? There are more than plenty of adoptees who are thriving bc of the selfless choice their birth mother made. But as an adoptee--I can tell you that this is not many people's experience. My mother--not the one who birthed me--but my real mother that invested herself into my life. . .that woman knows who I am because of the years she spent actually raising me. Please don't project what you've experienced onto the adoptee experience. While you know many adoptees who had painful lives, I can assure you that I know many who have had wonderful lives where they knew they were loved. I don't believe that genetics alone can solely trump the relational investment of an adoptive mother. My husband's job provides his cell phone as part of their business expense and I got mine that way as well--although now it is originally mine. To us, it was just like throwing money away--no need for a land line at all.
