What Can You Tell from How a Child Colors? - Blog Entry

Lyn you have hit the nail on the head. . .in my deep contemplations about homeschooling! LOL I have to admit, my children have fairly awful handwriting and I think it's in part due to my approach to coloring. I always kind of go back and forth between feeling like they'll develop good handwriting with practice (my 3rd grader's handwriting is much better) and wondering if I'm doing something horribly wrong. But they excel in all academic areas so I guess I figure if handwriting is their worst obstacle. . .it will come. It will come.

My chief scribbler by the way, is my chief rule follower and wouldn't dream of going out of the lines now!

I refuse to read your article. . .until I get closer to looking at the end of this year! UGH for some reason (well actually, I know the reason) we are so 'behind' in our curriculums this year. I find that I'm going to have to get creative with my quarterlies and IHIPs in order to fulfill our requirements. ;-)

I have scribblers. But careful scribblers. I realize, LOL, when we're in Sunday school that I almost never give my children a picture to color but instead give them blank drawing paper--and lots of it. So I have children that don't feel bound to color in the lines but choose their colors very carefully. I definitely tend to think that artistic talent is more in them, but imagination and creativity are more drawn out. I have two children who are really good at art. . .one who is not. . .but his creativity shows up 10 fold in his writing. Just a different means of expression I suppose.
