People are not so bright when faced with emergency situations. I bet the masseuse panicked, didn't realize he wasn't breathing, and didn't know what to do. I'm sure if her exact words to Mary Kate were. . .I'm standing over Heath Ledger's body and he is not breathing. . .the thought of calling 911 would've occurred to them. But I think there tends to be an initial denial when coming face to face with something like that. On a side note, I think it's horribly tacky that the media is so worried about it. The guy is dead. . .let his family grieve in peace. IF there are details to be known, they don't need to know it right now. Tennessee's Proposal to Change Kindergarten Cut Off Date - Blog Entry25 Jan 2008 04:04 AM While I totally understand the dilemma of parents who have sent their kids to pk in preparation for entering kindergarten. . .I have to agree that starting kindergarten later is better. There's so much that goes into being ready that just goes well beyond the academics. It's a huge year and I think a lot of parents don't understand that. As far as parents getting the right to choose. . .I have to disagree. While holding back will not cause serious issues. . .sending a child to school before he's ready will cause serious issues for the child, the teacher and the class. It's simply not the same. LOL And Lyn can attest to the fact that every parent thinks their child is 'ready'. . .If schools started letting parents decide that their children are ready for kinder, teachers would have classrooms full of "brilliant" students. While I would be frustrated to be in your position, moving the cut off date up is really the best thing for everyone. Never Buy Another Pair of Panty Hose or Tights Again - Blog Entry24 Jan 2008 08:36 PM I knew about the hairspray but not about the freezer. The freezer makes so much sense scientifically! Thanks Nicole! ;-) Coke is IT in Carrot Cake - Blog Entry23 Jan 2008 05:42 AM What a great recipe. I just happen to have a bag of carrots in my fridge. . . On the Great Curriculum Hunt - Blog Entry20 Jan 2008 11:51 AM Thanks Andrea. . .that certainly helps! ;-) Homeschooling and Public Teaching Comparison: Choosing a Curriculum - Blog Entry18 Jan 2008 04:58 AM Thanks Lyn! ;-) I agree. Not only in choosing curriculum but adapting it appropriately for your child vs. what works for a group. Ironically I currently use a math curriculum for my children that I did NOT like as a teacher. But with one child, I can adapt the curriculum accordingly and it works much better than it did with a whole group of students! Early Education on the Rise - Blog Entry18 Jan 2008 03:58 AM See, now I think that's an excellent idea. I still think it's unnecessary in the sense that one doesn't "have" to do it. Moms can do plenty of great stuff with their kids at home. BUT, I do think there are parents that need/want the intervention and a oaw meeting like that would be a great 'bridge' for those parents and kids. You're right Pam--that's an excellent compromise. FDA Repeats Warning Against Cold Medicines - Blog Entry18 Jan 2008 03:24 AM Yes. . .essentially parents have to read the dosing instructions. Like I said, I think bc you CAN give things like children's motrin or Tylenol to an infant by adjusting the dosage, parents think the same about cold meds. . .but not true. Only for two years and older! Thanks gracie's mommy. FDA Repeats Warning Against Cold Medicines - Blog Entry17 Jan 2008 03:08 PM That is the debate. It is not official yet but it is thought that the FDA will nix all sales of decongestant and/or cold medicines for children under the age of 6. Not all doctors feel that they are effective in children so young. However, at this point, it is still officially under two. You can still find cold meds for children between the ages of 2 and 6. . .and some manufacturer's pulled their stuff and then produced stuff w/ different drugs for the toddler set. So the debate is two fold: are cold meds for toddlers safe and effective? and if so, which drugs are allowed?
