Broke the news? Oh no Michele. Thus the disadvantages of having a child who reads well above grade level. She read it over my shoulder as I was checking the news.

Thanks Andrea for the idea. . .I'll have to think about/work on that. One of my favorite sites that would likely be right up your son's alley is the site for Sony Wonder Technology Lab (if you google it, it will come up). But unfortunately right now they're under construction so there's not much to do on their site. ;-(

I was wondering if you were going to blog on this. As a mom of one of the kids who entered. . .I was livid I must admit. My dd was very sad when she realized that she didn't win. . .and then to find out that she got beat out by a big fat cheater head and a liar? This mother should be ashamed, ashamed, ashamed and then some. Not only did she communicate a poor message to her daughter. . .she ripped off everyone else in the process. My dd donated about 35% of her lemonade stand money to buy a goat for a poor family through a not for profit as a Christmas present. She is now raising money to send art supplies to an orphanage in China. That's what she wrote about. She (along with some sibling help) did this foregoing buying each other Christmas presents. (LOL Like they need more stuff. . .but still. . .it's the principle.)

She was happy to see a girl win who had lost her daddy. And in her words, "I couldn't imagine losing my daddy or sending him to war for a long period of time. I'm so glad she won." My dd is deflated not bc she didn't win. . .but bc she can't be happy for them winning. But I think I'm more upset/annoyed than she is. It would be obnoxious but "excusable" if her dd had lied. But the mother?????? Good thing that mother doesn't live near me or I'd have some serious words for her.

No, not that I'm aware of. . . The theory that makes the most sense to me to explain the statistical tendency is that caucasion women have/need a slightly longer gestation period. And of course that boys need longer gestation than girls. . .which makes a lot of sense. . .as there have been numerous studies talking about how girls in general develop more quickly. If that is really what's happening, then it would stand to reason that it depends not on the baby's mixed race but what race the mother is. I don't really know though.

You'd think. I would guess she's horrible in that situation OR disagrees with her parents' politics or something and so they just want her quiet. I think it's curious. . .but I agree. . .at least she's consistent! LOL

It does stink Kara. Thank you for your comment. It's one of the problems with identifying this as a "trait" OTOH, I think it could one day lead to research that will help the problem.

Nope. . .bad press from silence is likely better than bad press from something actually said. ;-)

I also have to ask what's the benefit? There really isn't one IMHO. ;-) But I do appreciate your comments on my blogs. ;-)
