Politics 101: More on McCain's Platform

Hey. . .that'll be my kids! Meghan. . .watch out for that name.

It's true. . .we were the only people who brought our children with us to vote. It was a family experience. We did it for a few reasons--one of which it was easier to do it that way--but it was interesting to say the least.

A Word on Parental Involvement in Notebooking Projects

We will work on it throughout the year. I school year round and so we are just "starting" something new--even though it's at the end of hte year. When she's finished with the coursework from this she'll have a binder full of pages like this highlighting each period. . .people group. . .whatever we see as very important. We're not quite done with Vikings yet. . .so there might be another page that goes in there.

Now see I attribute that mostly to homeschoolers! (wink wink) Not really, but there does seem to be a generation that 'gets' that you need to be involved and know what you're voting for. I read a statistic somewhere that said that in recent history, the election is unprecedented in 'new' people voting and becoming involved in caucases and in primaries etc.

But I think that's just it. People don't notice or they have the party over country mentality. It drives me bonkers when people talk about voting for Hillary because she's a woman. . . So???? We have very superficial means of choosing candidates (meaning we as a country) and we also have very superficial understanding of the political process.

Sherry--Honestly. . .I was wondering the same thing. How can you be a "strict constructionist" and tout NCLB among others that you mentioned. Honestly, I think some of it is political spinning. . .not who is conservative but what conservative "alternative" can we offer to defeat the democrats--KWIM? It's political maneuvering. . .but I'm afraid that not too many are innocent as far as that goes. . .at least not in this stage of the game.

How to Afford a Baby When You Really Can't Afford One

Oh and yes. . .I didn't even mention the health insurance aspect but you're right. . .I know plenty of moms that keep their jobs because of their health insurance.

How to Afford a Baby When You Really Can't Afford One

Why thank you! ;-) I agree--there are moms who have to work--that's the reality of the times of where we live. I do think I'm very lucky. I used to work as an after school director which worked well because my spouse was a teacher. . .so he took the kids. I do think sometimes though we get stuck in a rut thinking that we can't and we just need a fresh perspective. Thanks for the comment.

Extreme Homeschool Objections: Parents with Suspect Motivations

27 Apr 2008 11:29 AM

So interesting Andrea. You see, my daughters are the only non-Muslim girls that will play with the other girls wearing hijab at the park. Why? Because those gosh darned Christian values that I'm raising them with consistently say that outward differences don't matter. They're taught that we don't judge and they're taught it consistently so guess what? They don't judge by someone else's clothing. But I know, I know. . .that's sooooo extreme. (Excellent series. ;-))
