Picking Pumpkins At A Pumpkin Patch - Blog Entry

12 Oct 2006 07:04 PM

We just came back from a pumkin patch! This was our first time and Tyler had a great time. I actually stumbled upon it on my way to the library. I never leave home without my digital camera so I was able to get some nice pictures. We bought two nice sized pumpkins for $2. I've never carved one so this should be interesting. They had a brochure with halloween saftey tips, a recipe for making face paint and information on how to carve the pumpkins. All of the kids who were there when we went were having a great time.

Are You A Perfectionist? - Blog Entry

It's okay Megan, the first step in the recovery process is admitting you have a problem! I love this book and I got it from the thrift shop for a buck. I especially like the part about Martha Stewart which is funny because I saw a book in the library the other day , "Martha Stewart I Ain't , But I Can Still Decorate" or something like that.

Student-led Parent-Teacher Conferences - Blog Entry

Yeah, I think it's a great idea and I can see how it would work. I think the students feel more in control of their education and will want to perform better.

Parenting Predicament: Kissing and Your Preschooler - Blog Entry

22 Sep 2006 08:42 PM

Brandi,

You were reading correctly. Well, I guess I should say I don't make a habit of letting him kiss me on the lips. But as I said sometimes he's so quick I don't have a choice. Don't get me wrong if he kisses me on the lips I don't make a big deal out of it. And like Misty, I consider myself very affectionate toward him. The first thing in the morning he gets a big hug and kiss. I hug and kiss him when I drop him at school and when I pick him up and before bed. Not to mention the dozens of other times we hug and kiss not counting those I've listed. I just think after a certain age you should stop. Of course, as Kaye pointed out, in a few years he'll probably not want to kiss me at all and then I will long for these days!

When Should Kids Start Their Homework? - Blog Entry

21 Sep 2006 02:35 PM

Today when we sat down to do homework at our regular time, Tyler realized he had left it at school. So I had to go back and get it. So make sure you check for homework before you leave school. Then again, had I waited an hour or so instead of our regular time, I would not have been able to get the homework because the school would have been closed by the time I got back over there. The other thing I forgot to mention is bedtime. Tyler's is 8 but we start winding down around 6:30 so that he can take a bath, have storytime and so on. I don't think it would work for us but based on the survey and what you guys are saying most parents don't feel the way I do.

Parenting Predicament: Kissing and Your Preschooler - Blog Entry

Kaye,

Many times when I lean down to kiss my five year old he will try to plant a bog one on my lips. I have to be really quick and turn so that he kisses me on the cheek. I have told him that kissing on the lips is not allowed but sometimes I am not quick enough. I taught his to kiss like the French, you know on one cheek and then the other. We also do air kisses and Eskimo kisses with our noses. This kind of helps also. But yep, I think they see adults kissing and even teens on tv and they want to do it too. I even with through this period where he wanted to call my Myra because "that's what my daddy calls you", so sometimes they really are just imitating what others do.

ADHD? Or is Your Child Actually Gifted? - Blog Entry

17 Sep 2006 08:13 AM

You read my mind! My five year old is advanced for his age, his teacher has suggested that I get him tested for the gifted program. He also has most of the signs of a child with ADHD- I think it was 10 out of 12 on this quiz I took the other day. One of his biggest problems is that he gets soooooo bored when he's not doing something challenging. I am reading a book right now on gifted children so that I can understand how I am supposed to deal with him. It is quite a challenge. Great article.

Rediscovering the Library - Blog Entry

We have an excellent library here in Mobile. I make a trip every week. The media section at the branch I frequent is HUGE. They have a lot of the latest releases including some great CD's. They also have some old movies that I missed. They have a lot of books on tape also and the children's section is bigger than some small libraries. The whole place reminds me of a university library. We pay $1 for DVD's and video tapes and keep them for a week which isn't bad and I don't mind supporting the library. Educational DVD's and tapes are free as are CD's. They also have story time and we just finished an awesome summer reading program. The library is my favorite place followed by Books a Million, Barnes and Noble and Starbucks!

Diary of an Overweight MOM: My Story - Blog Entry

Don't think Diet, think lifestyle change. And if you take the weight off slowly you will more than likely keep it off. Decreasing your caloric intake while increasing your activity level is the best way to get in shape. Good luck!
