Homeschooling and Scouting: An Unfair Advantage? - Blog Entry

28 Feb 2007 11:30 AM

Thanks, Tristi and Pam. We have one govt-school mom is who learning. lol. Last night she had all the 6th grade p.s. children come over and open up a MB card with her for Geology. She laughed and explained that in 6th grade, a whole semester of Geology was required. Good for her! :-). I'm mostly surprised at the new mantra, though. I think I first heard it when the homeschooler won the spelling bee a few years back. I'm hearing it more and more, though.

The Academy Awards has officially jumped the shark. Wouldn't mind filling a seat next to Will Smith, though. ;-)

Anna, I do think we need to reconsider orphanages. While less than ideal, they certainly offer a lot of benefit.

Great site! We've also used http://www.pibmug.com/files/map_test.swf (a java applet that times you to get all 50 states correct- it's difficult!)

Too Much Information? - Blog Entry

Oh, Andrea, I feel so bad for your son! I can still remember finding out what abortion was at 13 and being literally sick about it for a whole week. Definitely not old enough to process that information. My 14 year old asked me a couple of days what a whore was. That was an interesting conversation :-X. The question came from Brittney Spears having shaved her head, and his 12 year old friend explaining that that's what they did to whores in Biblical times.

Abortion: A Pregnant Mom is Still a Mom - Blog Entry

Mommietres, I think your story is a common one. The overwhelming majority of women I know who have had abortions were co-erced into it, usually by parents, boyfriends, or husbands. There is a wonderful organization called Rachel's Vineyard that offers counseling and retreats for post-abortive women. It can be totally anonymous and, while it is sponsored by the Catholic church, it is a non-denominational ministry open to all. RachelsVineyard.com

Homeschooling My Gifted Son. . .When the Others Are Not Part 2 - Blog Entry

I have a highly gifted younger brother with the golden touch. My mom has always been quick to quote Luke 12:48. "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." His gifts are responsibilities. Makes me very glad sometimes that I don't have the same gifts ;-).

Safeway Rally $10 Catalina - Blog Entry

Added: Do you eat Slim Jims? They're on sale for $10/10 -- which, if you have the Catalina means they're free. I'm going tostock up on a hundred for the boys' scout troop. I had a problem last night with the deal only going through three times. It wouldn't print after that, and the manager couldn't just give me the $ since it's through Catalina. So now they have a phone call in. My dad and brother both have cards, so we'll be shopping with them. Anyone else run into trouble?
