Five Tips to Paying off Credit Cards - Blog Entry

I agree with you about the snowball effect. It seems to work much better paying off the smallest first, even if it's not the highest interest rate. It's an emotional boost to get one paid off!

Is Your Bank Working for You? - Blog Entry

Absolutely important! Good article, Miriam. Dh has the bulk of our money in Navy Federal because he's been there since 1982. My "mad" money is in Washington Mutual. I have to say that they really bend over backward to make the customer happy. Very personal service, free checking, and favorable rates.

PS No need for us to worry about how much the FDIC insures. LOL.

Monkey Business -- Children's Picture Books about Monkeys - Blog Entry

Cute books! But ever since the very scary flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz, I just can't bring myself to look at any more primates. They still give me nightmares! :shudder:

Woohoo, guess gun club counts as humane education :-). Ours is run by hunters who assist nature in keeping the deer population in balance.

Breastfeeding: How Long Is Too Long? - Blog Entry

27 Dec 2006 02:05 AM

How about "When is he too old to breastfeed IN PUBLIC?" My mom nursed my baby brothers until they were 3 1/2. But they were at home. She didn't nurse her 3 year old in a shopping mall. We were at mall chess club not too long ago and the resident militant breastfeeder of the group plopped it out and gave her 2 year old a squirt like it was a juice box. My 14 year old didn't need to see her breasts. IMO, when the 'bab'y is too old to be breastfed with modesty, he's too old to be breastfed in public.

How Far Will You Go to Be Frugal? (2) - Blog Entry

I'm not sure the stem thing is ethical. Surely stores must calculate the prices based upon the stems included :-(.

We lost our water last week. Had to take the 5 gal bottle down to town to refill it so we'd have flushing water. To lesson the trips downtown, we did the three flush thing. After the first 'leftover', we modified it to KIDS ONLY. lol. Frankly, it wasn't worth leaving adult urine. Blecch. I wonder how much it actually saves?

I'll have to try the lawn decoration idea. I have an old metal bedframe that might be great to raise peas on.

Be Prepared with an Extra Gift - Blog Entry

We do this, too. Saves many an embarrassment :-). Still sitting here is a cookie tin, popcorn tin, and two boxes of gift-wrapped chocolate. I don't think we'll have a problem getting rid of them if they end up extra *s*.

Do Those Book Reward Programs Really Pay? - Blog Entry

I'm too cheap for the reward programs :-). Have you ever tried the paperbackswap? It's not just paperbacks. You pay only postage out.

Why Do You Love Your Spouse? - Blog Entry

Great idea! We don't do presents for each other on Christmas, but this is a wonderful way to express our feelings.

What is Love? - Blog Entry

18 Dec 2006 11:51 AM

Nice way to distinguish the different kinds of love, Heather. Have you read the five love languages? http://forums.families.com/5-languages,t25&p=119&postid=119. It tells about expressing those types of love.

I think "love" is a COMMITMENT. Emotions come and go, at higher highs and lower lows for some of us more than others ;-). Most of us have probably had days where we wake up and think, "How am I so blessed to be married to him?" as well as days where we wake up thinking, "Why am I so cursed to be married to him?" :-D. Doesn't change the level of love.
