Toddler in the House? Get the Gun Out

10 Sep 2006 10:26 PM

What's your address? heh heh. I'm kidding, but do you see how easily it would be for someone with nefarious intentions to look up your address knowing your name and town (and some of the personal information you've posted), knowing that you have no home protection?

Guns are not the problem. Guns that are not stored properly in combination with children that are not supervised properly are the problem. Almost half the households in America have a firearm. Accidental shootings, while tragic, are far less common than the anti-gun media would have us believe. The last statistic available (1990) is 236 (source: National Center for Health Statistics) deaths. Yes, that's 236 more than ideal. But it's FAR less than accidents of other types.

A firearm is a TOOL. Just as a pocketknife is a tool. So is a bottle of bleach or window washing solution. A can of mace is a tool. Likewise, a can of hairspray can be. Parents who determine that they cannot adequately supervise their children, or who are afraid of firearms should NOT have them. But for those that have well-educated their children and store their firearms safely, shooting can be a wonderful FAMILY activity.

They're also one additional tool that adds to family safety and security.

If, however, you're afraid of guns in the house, here are the best two alternatives: (1) a yappy dog (2) cluttered windowsills

They won't help you once an intruder is in, but unless you have something that can't be found elsewhere, they'll give the intruder incentive to go to the next house. (Thanks Lefty and Spike, serving time in Soledad, for the advice.)

That's terrible that you get an automated ticket. Can't imagine living in such a "Big Brother" type of place.

Michele, we're going in two weeks to Oahu. I saw the Big Kahuna 3-D golf ad in the Oahu magazine (101thingstodo.com). Do you know how much it is per person?

"You're My Little Love Bug" by Heidi R. Weimer

Have you heard that song from the album "Love Bug"? It's SO CUTE! I wonder if the title came from that? It's from 1998, and one of my kids' favorite albums.

I can hear it rattling in my head now :-)
