Piglets Big Movie

I have always been a really big Winnie the Pooh fan. When I was younger my entire room was filled with tons of Pooh stuffed animals. When you think of Winnie The Pooh characters the first to come to mind is usually Pooh, but Eeyore and Tigger are not far behind. Piglet, while gaining popularity is often left behind his superstar cartoon mates. Being left behind is the premise for the plot of “Piglets Big Movie”. In the movie Piglet is left out of the honey harvest because he is too small. Like anyone who has been left out by … Continue reading

Holiday traditions are an excellent way to make and keep connections with the other members of your family. Many people turn on the TV, catch the countdown, and watch the ball drop in Times Square. TV’s in Children’s Bedrooms (2)

I observed firsthand the problems of having TV’s in children’s bedrooms back when my daughter was in elementary school. One of the girls in her Year 4 class had one in her bedroom and she was the envy of her peers. Naturally this girl boasted about her new-found televisual independence and I’m sure there were cries of “I want one, too!” in more than our household. When I found out this girl’s older sister in Year 8 also had her own TV, as well as her younger brother in Year 3, it became almost like a scientific experiment for me. … Continue reading

Building a Homeschool Library: History Videos and DVDs

Previously, we have covered Building a Homeschool Library which discussed supplying classic books for your child to read. My last article addressed building a homeschool educational video and DVD library http://homeschooling.families.com/blog/building-a-homeschool-library-educational-videos-and-dvds for different age ranges. Dumbo

Walt Disneys movie “Dumbo” was originally released in 1941. I can remember being a huge fan of the movie when I was younger and for a while carried around a giant stuffed Dumbo with me where ever I went. If you’ve forgotten the plot line, the movie is about an elephant named Dumbo. His mother a circus elephant longed for a baby but when the baby was born (Dumbo) he has incredibly large ears. The other circus animals ridicule Dumbo for his ears. During the movie Dumbo tries to reunite with his mother, and come to terms with his ears. … Continue reading

Freaky Friday: Live A Day As Someone Else

All of us have had those fights with our parents, or our children. You know the ones where someone says “I’d like you to try and live my life for a day”. Whether it is a mother not understanding what its like to be a teenager, or a teenager not understanding what its like to be an adult both parties in the argument usually think they are right. With no way to actually have someone live your life for a day no one can truly be certain who should win the argument. In the movie “Freaky Friday” a mother and … Continue reading

Holes

I tried my hand at gardening a few years ago and determined that I am not a talented digger. There is something about the way you have to hold a shovel to be productive that I just can’t handle. My digging attempts usually ended in me covered in sweat, and a very small hole that I would have to get someone else to come and finish. In the movie “Holes” Stanley Yelnats digs a five foot hole every single day. In the movie he has been sent to a juvenile detention center where their punishment is to dig a hole … Continue reading
