What Makes Your Baby Special?

This past weekend, I got a trip away from my own kiddos to go and meet my precious new niece who is 4 months old. She is my youngest sister’s first baby, and I was thrilled to meet her. I can hardly believe my baby sister has a baby herself.

I loved snuggling this new bundle, and seeing her smile was such a delight. Why is it that babies are so enticing? Especially little nieces and nephews? I was astonished at how much she reminded me of my own babies. All the little sounds, coos, and facial expressions were priceless.

It struck me how similar every baby is. As you have more than one child, you will realize that all the “amazing” things that your first baby does, your other children will most likely do too. “What?!” you might say. Of course, every parent thinks their child is amazing, and the truth is, they are. But, so are everyone else’s babies too.

Now, don’t get me wrong, every child is unique and has special characteristics, but I can’t help but see that at the baby stage, babies are really, just babies. They all like to smile and cry. They all like to roll over at about the same age. They all sleep horrible, and make us fall in love. So, why are we all so smitten?

The truth is, because babies are little miracles. They ARE special. Especially when they are yours. They can make you feel unconditional love, they can make you feel so incredibly happy, and their adorable big heads are enough to melt your heart. Those big bright eyes staring back at you at 3 am are amazing because they are part of you. You would do anything to make that baby smile, and you are positive that no baby is as cute as yours.

The miracle of babies is that we can instantly fall in love and be forever changed because of them. What makes your baby special to you?
