I’ve covered the not-so wonderful side of technology in previous posts. However, this latest gem goes beyond falling down manholes or setting expensive texting records.
If you are a parent, you now have another reason to safeguard your smartphone when your kids are around.
Paul Stoute is living proof that protecting your cellphone from little fingers is one of the smartest parenting moves you can make.
The Oregon dad is the new owner of a vintage car, thanks to his toddler daughter’s cellphone skills.
Or, lack thereof.
Fourteen-month-old Sorella Stoute’s habit of tapping on her dad’s smartphone scored the family a 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite.
Paul told news reporters he was informed of his little girl’s purchase when he got an email from eBay congratulating him on his winning bid. It took a few hours for the dad to figure out that his curious daughter had grabbed his smartphone while he wasn’t looking and submitted the $202.50 bid.
“I actually thought it was a phishing email. You know, the ones where they try to steal your information?,” Paul told local news reporters. “And I actually looked it up on eBay just to make sure it was legit, and sure enough, the little one must’ve bought a car.”
The shocked dad deduced that Sorella opened up his eBay app, scrolled through recently viewed products, make the bid and won.
If you can call snagging a car that doesn’t run winning.
Despite being able to get out of the accidental purchase, Paul says he is planning to keep the car and restore it over time. The handy-dandy dad has about 15 years to get the car in shape before gifting it to his little shopaholic on her 16th birthday.
In the meantime, both Paul and his wife have added facial recognition technology to their phones and changed the pin codes just in case Sorella gets the urge to go on another shopping spree.
