Islam and the Non-Muslim Wife - Blog Entry

11 Aug 2007 01:13 PM

Salaymeh,

Congratulations on your baby! Although there are some cultural rules as far as middle names for babies, there are no actual Islamic rules. If you and your husband are in agreement about giving your son two middle names, go ahead! Islamically, the only rules on naming children are that the name should have a good meaning and not be a name of Allah. As for your child automatically being Muslim, that is usually a part of the marriage contract. When it comes to day-to-day life, though, I suppose only you and your husband can really decide! Best of luck to you. :)

Non-Muslim Woman: Should You Marry a Muslim Man? - Blog Entry

Yes, a Muslim man is allowed to marry a Christian girl. It can be a challenging combination, but many couples have made it work. Good luck to your friend! Thanks for your nice words about my blog. It's nice to be appreciated. :)

How Would You Deal with Polygamy? - Blog Entry

Sherry, this is something I've thought a lot about, because it's actually allowed in my religion. We discussed this before we ever got married, and I let him know I would rather be divorced and all alone that a co-wife. Luckily, he agreed that this just isn't in the realm of possibility. To me, polygamy degrades and devalues a marriage, stripping it of its very core. Sorry-- I can get passionate on this topic!

Sherry, I was mostly referring to individuals, but there are many peaceful Muslim groups. One group, Cair http://www.cair.com/, is devoted to promoting peace and understanding between Muslims and mainstream America. They are very much against terrorism, and they are working to build a Muslim presence in America. There are numerous progressive Muslim groups that are working to fight terrorism and bring about more rights for women.

The Questions Continue Part 3: The Big Socialization Question - Blog Entry

Great article, Valorie! Like I've mentioned in the forums, our socialization has improved immensely since we left the public schools! Now the girls interact with people of all ages and abilities, not just their age-peers. They can hold conversations with adults and children alike.

Yeah, I don't recall either of OUR exes showing up to visit our kids. My hubby's ex never even said congrats, and we see her every week! Definitely weird in my book...

When I Became a Muslim - Blog Entry

With all due respect, women also sat near Muhammad and learned. Women used to ask questions directly of the Prophet-- there are many hadiths relating this. I am happy, though, that you found peace in Christianity. Salam.

Forgiveness - Blog Entry

Thanks, MJ. That's the part I have trouble with-- the protecting yourself yet forgiving. That's a tough one. Though we are not of the same faith, I actually agree with much (most?) of what you say! ;) Keep up the good work!

Another beautiful post! I have a question for you: what about people who continue to abuse you and never repent?
