Choosing Your Wedding Colors

When I was a little girl, I was absolutely insistent that I was going to have pink for my wedding color. Then I decided that lavender was really the way to go. Then I thought I’d do burgundy … but with some pink thrown in for good measure. By the time I was actually engaged, I’d been through so many colors of the rainbow, I had no idea what I wanted. I was working in a floral shop at the time, and one day, a shipment came in of the most beautiful flower I’d ever seen. It was alstromeria, which … Continue reading

Wedding Dresses: Buyer Beware

Several months ago one of the local news stations here in Nashville ran a story about a bride-to-be who couldn’t return her wedding dress when her fiance died before their wedding day. (I think this was back around the time my mom got diagnosed with a month to live and went into the hospice. Which is why I didn’t write about it sooner. I’m just now working my way down the list of ideas I had back then.) I don’t remember exactly how her fiance died. (I want to say car accident, but that might not be right.) How he … Continue reading

Learning From Scrapbooking Mistakes

Live and learn. When it comes to scrapbooking, trial and error can often yield incredible results. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, right? When I attempted to make my first scrapbook, I was clueless. The process was akin to driving backwards down the wrong side of the highway. I was ill-prepared and it showed. For me it was a vacation scrapbook, but I’ve seen others do the same with wedding memory albums. … Continue reading

We go back in time to World War II and see a young boy named Angus find a strange stone by the loch—a stone which turns out to be the egg of the mythical water horse. He cares for the creature until … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: Miss Pepper-Sprayed Puerto Rico and Mama Katie

It appears Miss Puerto Rico was telling the truth after all. In a previous blog I reported that Miss Puerto Rico Universe, Ingrid Marie Rivera alleged that someone doused her pageant gown and swimsuit with pepper spray during the November 24th contest. Authorities opened an investigation and the news made headlines around the world. Rivera made the rounds on American TV recounting her horrific ordeal. She shared how she had to apply ice bags to her face and body in between turns onstage, and despite her excruciating pain she continued with the competition. Now police say the beauty queen did … Continue reading

Something Old . . .

Our modern wedding ceremony is a combination of western traditions that are more similar from nation to nation than they are different. While most cultural and religious groups have their own variations, a wedding in Lebanon, Peru, Spain and the United States don’t need a common language to understand what is happening. The Tradition of Marriage Weddings have very familiar traditions. For most of us, when you say the word wedding – the prevalent customs leap to mind. Customs like the white dress, the wedding cake, the attendants, the rings, the flowers and even the feast coupled with the toasts. … Continue reading
