Justin Roberts “Meltdown!” CD Review

Every once in a while you cross paths with a CD that simply brightens your day and plants a big, honest smile across your face. And every once in a while you will come across a collection of kid’s songs that has an odd little habit of always finding it’s way into your car CD player during the drive to pick up your child and then remains spinning once your little lady or gentleman has been collected. Most recently, that collection of music is the thirteen songs making up Justin Roberts’ fifth full-length record entitled “Meltdown!” Justin started releasing music … Continue reading

The Words in the Song

Before I was a father (and even before I was married) I found myself sitting in a strangely named sandwich place (something like “the inebriated capra aegagrus hircus) reading the nearest offbeat magazine sitting on the table as I took my lunch break from the next door theatre were I was volunteering as the intern to the executive director for college credit towards my management degree. Inside that offbeat magazine I found an unexpected article. Among the typical politically charged and occasionally intentionally offensive artworks there was an article about a children’s musician who’d attended a local high school and … Continue reading

Discovering New Music with and for Your Kids

One of the pleasures of my life has been discovering bands and artists, becoming vested in their music then watching them evolve as musicians and, in some cases, as people. It can be so very rewarding to find a band, singer or musician (local or national) that is relatively unknown and then fall in love with their style, lyrics, live performances and records. To share this with others … Continue reading

My little lady turns three today, at 12:14 PM (Eastern Standard Time) to be specific. It has been a remarkable three years. We have seen so much together (Florida, Maine, North Carolina, New York, Rhode Island and France) and shared a countless array of hilarious moments. So what amazing activities do we have planned for her big day? Well, nothing really. Sitting around the house, coloring, baking a chocolate cake (with white icing) and general silliness. And for her party tomorrow? Immediate family, two close friends, pizza, soft pretzels and selections of hot hors d’oeuvres and fruit. Wow, we are … Continue reading

A Night of Taking My Own Advice

I experienced a handful of my previous Family Fun posts all in one evening and it was not premeditated; my night just morphed into a living, breathing family fun blog. It was superb! Before my workday came to a close (yes, a real desk job) I finally remembered to visit the websites of Gustafer Yellowgold and Justin Roberts and printed off about a dozen coloring pages for my daughter to enjoy. These are two of my gal’s favorites right now and I knew that each musical act had a sizable freebie section of their web pages. Problem is, I kept … Continue reading
