In Memoriam 2011 – Part 1

Each year, we lose beloved stars, athletes, authors, and pop culture figures and 2011 was no exception. Here’s a few of those that died in 2011: January 2011 If you are a Rocky Horror Picture Show fan, you no doubt remember the line “Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet” from Science Fiction/Double Feature, the opening ode to great sci-fi films of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Francis, who also was the star of the television show “Honey West” died on January 3 at age 80 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Gerry Rafferty made his name with hits such as “Baker … Continue reading

Great Breakups of 2011

Another year is almost finished and with it, several celebrity marriages. Some were predicted (Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries), some were unexpected (Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger), and others were just anticipated from the start (Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher). With Kim and Kris, I think many people predicted their marriage would end so we just simply wouldn’t have to see them on television or the cover of magazines anymore. No such luck. I was pretty surprised by the Maria and Arnold breakup. Yes, there had been rumors of him cheating, but the two had been together since 1977 (married … Continue reading

Maria Shriver’s Family Tree

Maria Shriver has been in the news lately in regards to her divorce from former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger. I remembered that she was a news anchor for NBC before becoming California’s First Lady when Arnold was elected Governor. I had forgotten, however, that she is a Kennedy. Since I didn’t remember that Maria Shriver was part of the Kennedy family, I thought perhaps that other people may have, too. Politically, it is somewhat strange to think about. Members of the Kennedy family are Democrats, and her husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is a Republican. I thought it would be interesting … Continue reading

Charlie’s Officially Out and Arnold Did WHAT?

Well, you may have heard the news by now, but CBS has officially announced that Ashton Kutcher will be Charlie Sheen’s replacement on “Two and a Half Men.” Sheen had maybe jokingly, maybe not pleaded for his job back during his one man train wreck, eh, tour. A friend has said Sheen is “destroyed” that he has been replaced and so quickly. Publically, Sheen has tweeted his best to Ashton and said CBS got the right guy. However, he later tweeted, “Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer … Oh wait, so am I!! Enjoy the show America, … Continue reading

Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger Call It Quits

Call me silly, but I didn’t see this one coming. Yesterday, it was announced that journalist Maria Shriver and the former governator Arnold Schwarzenegger are calling it quits. The couple has been married for 25 years, but they’ve been together even longer than that. They were introduced by Tom Brokaw in 1977. After about nine years of dating, the seemingly unusual couple married on April 26, 1986 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. They seemed like an odd couple because at the time, Schwarzenegger was a body builder turned actor who supported the Republican Party. Shriver, daughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, was a … Continue reading
