Mickey’s Halloween Parties

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. I love the candy and I love dressing up, and Halloween also summons sweet childhood memories about trick-or-treating with my friends and having autumn sleepovers (my best friend growing up’s birthday was two days before Halloween). So of course I’m excited to share what the Disney Parks’ plans are for the 2010 spooky holiday. Disney already excels in Halloween celebrations; their 1993 film “Nightmare Before Christmas” is one of my favorite to watch during this time of year (and then again at Christmas) and contains in my opinion one of the only good Halloween … Continue reading

Most Frightening Disney Moments

In honor of my favorite holiday I’m going to look at the scariest moments in Disney movies. I’m not as well-versed in all of their live action flicks, so I’ll limit my focus to the animated features. The first movie that immediately popped into my head was “Pinocchio.” Believe it or not, it wasn’t the mammoth Monstro that most frightened me. It was anything to do with Pleasure Island, particularly the donkey transformations. Even at my young age I sensed something sinister about the crowds of boys pushing and scrabbling at one another to get at the attractions on Pleasure … Continue reading

The Gooiest Apple Awards at Disneyland

This year Disneyland’s doing something a little different for Halloween. Sure, both parks are throwing the usual parties, but this time Disneyland has a little something special for the holiday on its website. Travel over to Disneyland’s Halloween Time and see what I mean. The main focus for Halloween Time is the Disney Villains, which makes sense. The flash animation on the site rotates between each of the most popular baddies, and users can click on them to read a tidbit about the character. Then they can vote to crown their favorite with the Gooiest Apple Award. But rather than … Continue reading

A Disney Christmas

It seems like this year Disney’s not rolling out anything special for Christmas. Decorations and celebrations at the parks started at least as soon as Thanksgiving passed, if not earlier, and the Christmas Day Parade filmed at the beginning of December. Holiday-themed posts are rare on the official Disney Parks blog. With Christmas starting so early around Disney, by the time the actual dates for the holidays roll around there isn’t much to report. Even Disney’s televised Christmas special retreads last year’s material. However, that might not be such a bad thing. I loved the premise of “Prep & Landing” … Continue reading

Conservation at the Animal Kingdom

One of the Animal Kingdom’s bats For all my from-childhood into-adulthood love of the fantasy worlds of Disney, the Animal Kingdom is rapidly becoming my favorite Disney World park. I know I haven’t actually visited Disney World yet, but just based on the things I’m learning about the Animal Kingdom’s dedication to conversation, the environmental and animal activist in me joins with my love of Disney to make me a huge fan of the Animal Kingdom. Recently the official Disney parks blog posted a round-up of all the ways the Animal Kingdom has in the past year promoted conservation, education, … Continue reading

Potential Expansion for Disneyland Paris

After remaining quiet for half a decade or so, construction vehicles on Disney parks are really revving up again. We have the major Fantasyland expansion currently underway in Disney World, a new Disney park planned for Shanghai, and now, a potential new theme park for Disneyland Paris. The U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper reports that Euro Disney – the European corporate branch of the conglomerate – has reached a deal with the French government allowing it another 20 years during which to build on the lands surrounding the park. The government owns all of the land around Disneyland Paris and previously only … Continue reading

Disney World: What’s the Best Time of Year to Go?

If you ask ten different people what’s the best time of year to pay a call on Disney World, chances are you’d get ten different answers. I haven’t had a chance to ask ten different people what their opinions are on the best time to go to Disney World, so I’ll go ahead and just give you my opinion on when the best time to go to Disney World is. Autumn in Orlando You often hear about autumn in New York or a weekend in New England (yes, okay those are titles and I’m borrowing them shamelessly), but autumn in … Continue reading
