Decorated Handprint Cookies

I normally do not venture over here into the Food section. My safe zones are in Education, Marriage, and now Movies. However, as a teacher I watch my kindergarten students and my own children sit endlessly and trace their hands with crayons and markers. The girls then proceed to cut out the hands and decorate them with beautifully colored nails and fine jewelry. Old Fashioned Ice Cream Roll

Did your grandmother used to make this old fashioned summer treat? I must confess, I had never heard of it before until I stumbled upon a recipe in my Amish cookbook. I tried it and failed miserably. However, this version is a little more fool proof. The cake requires a few less ingredients and if you’re careful to follow the directions–it will come out beautifully. It will still require a good part of time, but it’s delicious and well worth the effort.
