Jason Beghe Disses Scientology

Do you remember when the Tom Cruise video about Scientology was circulating a few months ago? He seemed almost manically gleeful when talking about the overall greatness of Scientology and spoke about how only Scientologists could save the world. Well, now a former Scientologist has released his own Youtube video, only this one expresses the exact opposite opinions of Scientology. While Tom sang the praises of Scientology, actor Jason Beghe has apparently had enough. This week, the actor called Scientology “destructive” and said it was a “rip-off” on a Youtube interview with Veronica Schmidt. Beghe is best known for his … Continue reading

Top Ten Wedding Planning Articles of 2006

Several months ago, I started incorporating wedding planning articles into the marriage blog and from those days we’ve since grown that area of discussion to include dating, engagements, proposals and every facet of wedding planning that we could from the bridal shower to the bachelor party to themes for the wedding to the ceremonies themselves. It’s hard to look back at the past year without wanting to look for the ten best articles to come from that wedding planning area of our library. So without further ado, here are my picks for the ten best wedding planning articles of 2006. … Continue reading

What is a Scientology Wedding Ceremony?

Scientology often tops the news because many celebrities follow the tenets of L. Ron Hubbard’s religion. Celebrities make the news and thus Scientology is thrust front and center. Despite the constant appearance in a rash of recent news articles, few do more than speculate, comment or criticize the faith of the Scientologists without actually providing some explanation for what is being commented on. Tom Cruise is among one of the more notable Scientologists in the news of late and a recent report stated that Katie Holmes, his fiancé, is studying Scientology. They will be married in a Scientology wedding ceremony. … Continue reading

Scientologists Making Headlines

I doubt Tom Cruise’s latest gift was given to him because of his affiliation with Scientology, still it serves as another example of how the rich and famous stay rich because they don’t have to buy anything. Cruise’s newest “toy” was gifted to him by Ducati, a company that makes elite motorcycles. According to Ducati officials, Katie Holmes’ hubby will be the first person in North America to own a $72,500 Desmosedici RR superbike bristling with titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber technology that can cruise to speeds that exceed 200 mph. The actor is reportedly a well-known Ducati enthusiast and … Continue reading

Travolta Sounds Off on Psychiatry

Do you remember two years ago when Tom Cruise had his psychiatry rant with Matt Lauer? Tom said, “Psychiatry is a pseudo science” and argued with Matt, saying, “You don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do.” Cruise, a Scientologist, felt that post-partum depression should not be treated with medication – he used Brooke Shields as an example – but with “vitamins and through exercise and various things.” If you missed the interview, you can still read the entire transcript at the MSNBC web page. Now, almost two years to the day after that interview, John Travolta is coming out … Continue reading

What Are Secret Marriages?

As you may know, I’ve been working on a series covering marriage laws throughout the 50 United States. Interestingly enough, as I was looking up laws in Michigan, I found out they have had a law on the books since 1897 governing secret marriages. So what is a secret marriage? So glad you asked, because I was curious and went to do some digging. Secret Marriages Secret marriages are just that – a marriage that occurs in secret. They are civil ceremonies that allow a couple to get married without there being an open record of the marriage. Prince Albert … Continue reading

The Queen of Queens

For the last five years or so I have been an avid fan of the CBS sitcom “The King of Queens.” Believe it or not, it is one of the only shows on television that my entire family will sit down and watch together. (I know… don’t ask.) Well, tonight (after a nine-year run) the popular show comes to an end. (Reruns will continue to air in syndication, but the original shows end tonight.) That means no more hilarious squabbles between Kevin James and Jerry Stiller’s characters (first he departs from my favorite Thursday night show “Seinfeld” and now Stiller … Continue reading

I Now Pronounce You Mr. and Mrs. TomKat

The wait is finally over. It’s official: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are now legally husband and wife (though, they may have been for a while now—more on that later). According to their spokesperson, the couple exchanged vows Saturday in front of more than 150 guests at the Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy. Details on the ceremony are slowly being leaked to the media. Here’s what has been released so far: Holmes was walked down the aisle by her dad, Martin. She wore “an off-the-shoulder Armani gown with a train in ivory silk cadis adorned in Valenciennes lace and … Continue reading

Countdown To Cruise’s I Do’s

Well, if you believe what the international media is screaming with banner headlines then in less than 36 hours Tom Cruise and his fiancée Katie Holmes will finally become man and wife. For weeks, rumors have been swirling that TomKat would likely wed Saturday in a Scientology ceremony held at a 15th-century Italian castle in the lakeside town of Bracciano, near Rome. Today, the same day that A-list Hollywood stars and supposed wedding guests arrived via charted plane to join the couple in Rome, Bracciano’s mayor spoke to the swarms of reporters that have descended on the small town. The … Continue reading

When Two Faiths Marry

When it comes to marriage, we often refer to the ceremony as the bonds of holy matrimony. For many people, every part of that phrase has meaning – specifically the holy part. So what can you do when you and your fiancé are of two different faiths? What options do you have? Religion and politics are considered the two most divisive topics in the world when it comes to relationships. There are some faiths that counsel against marrying outside the faith in order to promote and preserve harmony in the relationship. However, it’s up to you who you marry and … Continue reading
