Measure Your Inches Not Your Weight

Most of us, who are concerned about fitness, base it on our weight. We step on the scale (sometimes on a daily basis) and we determine our success by what the numbers say. If they have gone up, we get discouraged (even by one pound) and if they go down (again, even if it’s just by one pound), we are elated. But what the scale says isn’t the only measure of how well we are doing. You could be staying the same, yet losing inches. So be sure to not only consider your weight but your inches. The reality is … Continue reading

Feeling That Burn

I finally decided this month that I need to add something more to my exercise routine. It was time to bring in the weights. The little 5 pound weights that would help build muscle and be used in some exercises that will work my arms and legs. I literally felt burning in my muscles when I started this. Actually, I am still feeling … Continue reading

Bally Twist Board to the Rescue

I have been part of a survey team online for the past year. It was really awesome to be able to voice my opinion and be rewarded at the same time. I was rewarded with gift certificates from Amazon. What a great reward it was too! I was able to buy several very useful and indulgent things for others and myself. They really came in handy and allowed me to spoil myself just a bit. I was becoming a little bored with my gym equipment and wanted something new to try. I have numerous pieces of home equipment that I … Continue reading

Simple Ways to Bond with Your Toddler

Parenting is not rocket scientist. However, it often requires functioning on little to no sleep (unless you were blessed with one of those angel babies that zonks out at 7 p.m. and doesn’t rouse until 7 the next morning OR you were gifted with a large house and a high tolerance for demonic screaming, which made night weaning a breeze) and a LOT of patience. A well-rested mommy begets a patient mommy, and nothing makes a toddler happier than a happy mommy. Your undivided attention is all your adorable tot really wants, so find a way to make time for … Continue reading

Fitness Footwear

I once drove 120 miles to get my hands on a pair of discontinued running shoes. For some reason Nike constantly gets rid of the shoes that I perform best in. Seriously. Every single pair of Nike running shoes I’ve completed marathons in has been yanked from store shelves leaving me to scour the Internet for leftovers. When it comes to exercise and footwear, most people are quite loyal to their stomps. However, I recently considered straying from my beloved Nikes to try out a pair of performance enhancing EasyTone shoes by Reebok. The popular show manufacturer recently debuted its … Continue reading

My Lifestyle Journey (Week Seven)

My life has been a whirlwind for the past month. Although I have not experienced any additional weight loss, I have managed to maintain, which makes me very happy. I have also been more faithful about exercising routinely. I visited my doctor a couple of weeks ago. I asked her what is the best way to lose weight at this stage of my life (40+). She said that if she knew she would be skinny. I told her that I have been dieting and exercising and that my weight is still not budging. I do, however, feel stronger, more muscular, … Continue reading

Weightlifting to Alleviate Back Pain

Forget about paying $100 for a 60-minute massage; according to a new study you are better off lifting weights to ease lower back pain. Researchers from the University of Alberta say people who add weight training to their fitness regime experience less back pain than those who participate solely on other forms of exercise, such as tennis, jogging or biking. The study followed people suffering with chronic back pain as they participated in a 16-week exercise program. The participants were split into two groups. The first group completed resistance training using dumbbells, barbells and other load-bearing exercise equipment. The second … Continue reading
