A Day at the Zoo Part I

We have a zoo in our city. It is not a big zoo by any means, but it does have more than enough animals to entertain a toddler. I am not a particular fan of animals; I remember going to this same zoo as a child and being scared to death especially by the goats in the petting part of the zoo. The cost of admission to this zoo is more than a movie ticket (something my husband and I never spend money on). Thanks to my very generous in-laws, we have a year long family pass to the zoo (we can also take two guests with us with no additional charge). Up until recently, I was under the impression that the zoo would be closed during the winter season, but apparently there are several exhibits open for the winter. I decided that we needed to take a trip to the zoo, we just needed to find a time to do it. That time came during my sisters’ spring break. After my two youngest sisters spent the night, we made plans to go to the zoo after breakfast the next day. It just happened to be lightly raining the next day, but we did not care, we were determined to go to the zoo. So we drove thirty minutes across town with both of my sisters and both of my children. I was pretty sure that my son would have a blast even though his sister was far too young to care. When we got to the zoo it was still raining. We grabbed an umbrella and checked in at the front desk. Luckily, the zoo has an indoor exhibit (something I was not aware of) so we began our tour out of the rain. The path took us through dark tunnels, we saw red panda bears, snakes, and miniature crocodiles. The dark tunnels led us to an open atrium full of light and exotic birds. There were child size log bridges and waterfalls. I asked my son if he wanted to get out of the stroller and walk at first he did but then some birds started walking towards him and he begged to get back into the stroller…
