A Day of Thanks

It is always good to spend the day of Thanksgiving thinking about all that you have to be thankful for. Often the holiday gets lost in the turkey and gravy, but the best treasure is the observance of thanks.

This holiday, take some time to really look at your financial security. Use this reflection to gain some pride over past accomplishments. Did you finally pay off one credit card balance this year? Buy your first home? Simply make it to your next paycheck? Whatever your successes are (big or small) take some time today to enjoy them and be thankful.

If you have a good food on your table, be thankful. If you have a source of income, be thankful. If you have a roof over your head, be thankful.

Too often we get lost in all the things we don’t have. Stop that for today. Spend Thanksgiving appreciating the things that money has provided for you. Be thankful there is money in your bank.

We don’t want to spend too much time looking back, but on at least this one day of the year it is worth the feelings of satisfaction. With a full belly, sit back and savor what you do have.

While each of us has different things, we all have things we do treasure. Often these items are not about money. Having financial security does help free up time to really focus on the things that matter to us.

Wherever you are and whatever you choose to do on this day of thanks, be sure to thank yourself. If you can feel good about your financial past, it can give you confidence to keep going. Did you manage to save a little more this year? That will only make it easier to save for next year. Whatever your goals are, take time to appreciate these small steps that help us get there.

Happy Thanksgiving!
