Looks like all three of us in the Amodio household (apartmenthold) aren’t feeling well today. I’ve been having some sort of allergy attack, complete with stuffy nose and post-nasal drip. On the four-legged front, Moose didn’t eat his breakfast — and he never misses a meal. And Lally barfed twice in the living room.
A fun day for all.
Of course, I was out of my usual favorite pet mess cleaner: Nature’s Miracle. That stuff is truly great for getting colorful messes out of the carpet AND neutralizing the scents that tempt pets to revisit the spot. But since I’m feeling kind of like my head is full of cement today, I wasn’t too eager to run to the nearest pet store for more.
It was time to improvise.
First, I dabbed up as much of the yuck as I could with paper towels. Any cloth will do, but I like paper towels because I can just toss them and don’t have to worry about washing anything (besides the floor). Then I got a squirt bottle and flooded the barf spots with clean water. I let that soak in for a minute, then applied a double layer of paper towels and stood on it to soak up the water.
After I was done, I could still see the neon yellow-orange color that my dear darling girl dog seems to barf. A lot of times I’ll use a drop of dish soap to scrub the carpet but… well, I was feeling lazy. So I went to the laundry room and got a small scoop of Oxy Clean (which I usually add to the washer when I run a load) and sprinkled it over the barf spots. I placed another paper towel over the top to keep the dogs off and let it sit.
Maybe I didn’t need to let it sit for an hour — okay, I kind of forgot it was there! But when I went back and applied a little more water and then vacuumed up the extra white powder… the spots were gone! Hooray for being lazy!
So what’s the moral of the story? Don’t get sick all on the same day, for one. But also, that Oxy Clean stuff is pretty handy for cleaning up pet messes if you’ve got nothing else around (or you’re feeling lazy).
