A New Calling

Today, I am getting a new calling in our ward. I started to wonder if I would be left out of all the initial callings in our ward because it has been several weeks since our new ward got organized. However, when I missed church this past Sunday due to one of my kids being sick, my husband came home and told me that a new Relief Society President had been called. And, that she was talking to him about me.

My first thought was, “Uh oh. I am getting called into the Relief Society.” But, in reality, I love relief society, and I love having callings in the church, too. On Tuesday night, sure enough, the Bishop called me and set up a meeting, and I was called to be a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency. I’m happy to serve wherever the Lord wants me to serve, so of course, I accepted.

Our Relief Society is very large now, so I do feel a little intimidated. Teaching such a large group of smart, spiritual, experienced women will be difficult, I’m sure. But, I’m also excited for the opportunity to get to know a lot of the women in our ward a lot better, too. Since the ward was reorganized, I haven’t had the chance to really get to know a lot of the sisters because Sundays are always a day when everyone is busy, and here is not too much socializing that can be done. But, now, I will have a chance to get to know the women in the ward firsthand.

Some things have changed since I was last in Relief Society. I asked the Bishop which counselor I would be and he said that there were no longer 1st and 2nd counselors. I’m sure I will learn as I go about the changes and how they will affect my calling. But, I do have a testimony of this wonderful organization, and I can’t wait to start serving there!
