Adventure to Inspire – Homeschool Blog Review

stuyd Over the last month, I’ve had the chance to talk with ToriAnn Perkey, homeschooling mom who runs the blog Adventure to Inspire. As we’ve chatted, we’ve investigated her reasons for choosing homeschool for her family, and today I’d like to talk about the blog itself.

I was first introduced to the blog by her husband, Josh. I’m usually a little leery when someone says, “Hey, my wife blogs. Check it out.” But I’ve known and respected Josh for a long time, so I headed on over.

What I found was an awesome resource. There are articles sharing thoughts and ideas, personal stories that I really related to, and links to all kinds of fun and exciting ideas.

I chatted with ToriAnn about this new endeavor, and I asked her, “What are your goals for your blog?”

She said, “I’m still in the process of figuring out what the goals are for my blog. I know that I want to share with others everything I’ve learned over the years and what I continue to learn about getting kids excited about learning. I’ve been doing a great deal of research about motivation, and brain science, and learning, and psychology, and I want to share what I’m learning and how it applies to teaching others. I also see my blog as a place to all share all the great learning ideas and resources I’ve had over the year–and also all the great ideas that I see other people doing. As I figure out what I’m doing, I want to add charts and forms that I’ve put together to help me figure out how to better inspire my kids.

“I also feel strongly that in order to inspire learning, you have to figure out how to have great relationships with your kids. And some kids are easier to have great relationships with than others. In my family, I have one kid who would probably be diagnosed with ADHD and one who is borderline Asperger’s. I also have one who is very shy and very emotional. Put all of those dynamics together, and I’ve had a crash-course in parenting ‘difficult’ children. But over the years, I’ve learned so many great techniques and skills to make that parenting easier–and to help develop strong relationships with those children. And I want to share what I’ve learned with others.”

That sounds something we all can use – who doesn’t want a stronger relationship with their child? Check out Adventure to Inspire here.
