Are We There Yet?

left

“Are we there yet?”

Those four little words can result in major anxiety for parents traveling with children.

The dreaded chorus emanating from the backseat of the family vehicle is far from music to parents’ ears. Fortunately, if you are planning to hit the road with your pint-sized clan this summer, there are ways to keep the “Are we there yet” blues at bay.

While music is a quintessential part of a family road trip, rather than have your kids sing a melancholy melody, turn them on to classic travel tunes. Sure, “99 Bottles of Root Beer,” may keep the kiddos entertained for a few miles, but if you really want to create a soundtrack the entire family can enjoy, consider burning a mix CD. Include songs that passengers of all ages can rock out to, from children’s favorites to adult contemporary, country, pop and everything in between.

The following travel-themed tunes may be unfamiliar to younger passengers, but by the end of your journey you may find that they’ve found a few new favorites:

Ventura Highway by America

Every Day is a Winding Road by Sheryl Crow

New York, New York by Frank Sinatra

Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts

Where the Streets Have No Name by U2

Carolina in My Mind by James Taylor

Africa by Toto

Graceland by Paul Simon

Taking the Long Way Around by the Dixie Chicks

The River by Garth Brooks

On the Road Again by Willie Nelson

Around the World by the Rd Hot Chili Peppers

Roam by the B52s

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones

Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane

Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz

I’ve Been Everywhere by Johnny Cash

King of the Road by Roger Miller

Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude by Jimmy Buffet

Ramblin’ Man by the Allman Brothers

What are some of your favorite travel-themed tunes?
