Are You and Your Spouse Dreaming the Same Dream?

Are you and your spouse dreaming the same dream? Or are they completely different? For example is one of you dreaming of a house in the country while the other is dreaming of a house in the city or the suburbs. Is one of you dreaming of a house filed with kids while the other is dreaming of maybe one or two? Is one of you dreaming of furthering your career while the other is dreaming of having a stay at home wife or husband? Are you both dreaming of a happily ever after marriage? These are all topics you need to discuss at length before you get married.

Of course, sometimes things happen and those dreams change. The reality is sometimes people change their minds or circumstances change them for us. So you need to be checking in on a regular basis to make sure you both share the same dream.

On my calendar for today it says ‘When we dream together, it is not just a dream. It is the beginning of reality.’ Dom Helder Camara.

Maybe you have a dream for retirement. Recently I heard of one man whose dream was to travel around Australia in a caravan. His wife refuses to budge. She’s happy in the home they’ve lived in for yeas and has no desire to leave even for a little while. Obviously they’re not both going to get what they’re dreaming about. One of them is going to have to give up their dream.

When Mick was nearing retirement age we both had a dream- that of moving near the coast. Over a number of years we keep that dream in mind and did everything we knew in planning for it to happen. Thankfully it was also God’s plan for us.

Now we have a modest little home but we do have water at the bottom of the street and amazing coastal beaches with turquoise seas and white sands just ten minutes away. Kangaroos and spectacular colored bird life visit regularly. No wonder we think we now live in Paradise, with a lot of other great people. But most importantly we both had the same dream and when we dream together, sometimes those dreams come true.
