Autumn

I have to come to grips that summer is over. Summer is my favorite season. I love the sun and the heat. We’ve had few cold days so far this fall, but enough for me to break out the jeans and long sleeves. I need to look through Jessie’s jammies from last year to see if she has any that would fit her now. I went through the box of 12-month clothes to find footie jammies for Emily. We have not turned the heat on in the house yet nor have I stopped wearing sandals.

The colors are starting to change. There’s not much to change here, but there are trees that do show color. The tree in our front yard is having an identity crisis. Instead of going into dormancy or showing autumn on its branches, it’s budding. I guess all the back and forth between hot and cold has left the poor thing confused. Soon the lawn and plants will go dormant until spring. I am looking forward to some of the chill in the air. Not much, though, as I don’t like being cold. I am hoping this winter will be snow free.

My parents’ house is decked out for fall. Mom has the house ready for Halloween and will move seamlessly in to Thanksgiving. I used to decorate until all my holiday stuff got buried in the attic. There’s not much I can do with two toddlers. They have to get into everything. My fall décor consists of two pumpkins on the dining room table. One is the one Jessie got when her class went to the pumpkin patch and the other is the mini pumpkin she decorated at Going Bonkers. I have a really cute pumpkin on the front porch too. It’s a Fairy Tale Pumpkin.
