Babies in the News: The Miracle of New Life

Do you remember when your baby was born? When you held him in your arms or the first time he cried and you were able to calm him for no other reason than that you were the mommy? It was my third daughter Meghan who was not breathing when she was born and although I’m sure it was only a few seconds before they were able to get her going, I thought it was an eternity. Life is a miracle and these stories just show that miracles happen around us all the time.

Baby Revived After Being Dead

Two week old Woody didn’t look so good as they were going through the grocery store. His parents knew something was wrong and so they immediately called an ambulance. By the time he reached the hospital he suffered a massive heart attack.

Doctors worked on him for half an hour doing the absolute best they could. After thirty minutes there just wasn’t anything else to do. Nurses called the family in to say their final good byes.

Nurses removed the tubes and handed the lifeless body to his parents. I can only imagine the absolute devastation they must’ve felt. But as they were saying good bye, he twitched and coughed. Quick thinking nurses snatched him up, and were able to resuscitate him.

Apparently, he was born with a partial blockage in his aorta and once the doctors found it they were able to repair his heart completely. He is now, at 14 months, the picture of perfect health.

Life After the Storm

The 2004 tsunami that desolated parts of India and surrounding areas was a natural event unprecedented in human suffering. Over fifty percent of the people lost that day were children as they were unable to run away from the waves and were not strong enough to hold onto anything amidst them.

Darmi Ali, who lived in Banda Aceh–one of the hardest hit areas, lost all three of his daughters and his wife in the tsunami. He recalls trying to hold on to one but in the end the waves simply proved too powerful. He remarried and I’m sure to his surprise his wife conceived not one more daughter but three more daughters!

Ali, a police officer in the Indonesian province is overjoyed and says that while he lost his first three daughters he now has three more. The triplets are doing well and although they are small, are expected to survive.
