CDC Recommends Kids 2 and Older Wear Cloth Face Masks

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that children who are two-years-old and older wear cloth face masks. It may not be easy, at first, to get little ones to wear the cloth face masks. But there are things parents can do to make the masks less scary. CDC says: Children 2 years and older should wear a cloth face covering their nose and mouth when in the community setting. This is an additional public health measure people should take to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in addition to (not instead of) social distancing, frequent hand cleaning and other … Continue reading

First U.S. Baby Born After a Uterus Transplant

TIME reported that, for the first time in the United States, a baby was born to a woman who had a uterus transplant. The birth took place at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. TIME protected the privacy of the woman and her husband in order to protect their identity. This was the first birth of the hospital’s ongoing uterus transplant clinical trial. The women who participated in the trial have absolute uterine factor infertility (AUI). This could mean that their uterus is nonfunctional or is nonexistent. Some of the women in the program have Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) which causes the … Continue reading

The New Year’s Babies of 2017

There are babies born every day of the year, but the babies born on New Year’s Eve, or New Year’s Day, get the most attention from the news channels and websites. These babies experience a moment of fame shortly after being born. Here is a quick look at some of the New Year’s Babies of 2017. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016. This inspired some parents who are Cubs fans to give their newborns names that commemorate that historic win. Some of these newborns were New Year’s babies. Wrigley Rose has the unofficial honor of being the … Continue reading

Baby Advice Can Become Outdated

New parents are often overwhelmed with pieces of baby advice. Sometimes, the advice comes from family members who really do mean well by giving you a piece of baby advice that they used on their children. Other times, some random person at the grocery store feels the need to toss unwanted baby advice at you. It can become difficult to tell the good advice from the bad. One way to sort things out is to see if the advice you were given is in this list of outdated baby advice. All of the baby advice in this list started out … Continue reading

Thieves Steal Funds from Baby Needing Transplant

A baby with a serious infection is waiting on a heart transplant. Her parents had fundraised much of the money that would be required. Sadly, some really heartless thieves stole some of that money on Valentine’s Day. The family still has a fundraiser that people can donate to. Parents Brooke and Joshua Anderson have a baby girl named Jaelyn. She is nine months old, and has been waiting for a heart transplant for almost four months. Her parents have had fundraisers going in the hopes of being able to afford the medical care that their daughter required. Jaelyn has myocarditis. … Continue reading

Arkansas Has a Women’s Health (Family Planning) Program

Arkansas has a Medicaid program that has a few different parts. As far as I can tell, their regular Medicaid program covers women who are pregnant. Arkansas also has a program called “Women’s Health (Family Planning)”. Medicaid is a public, or government run, form of health insurance. The purpose is to provide individuals and families who are low-income, and who cannot afford to buy a health insurance plan from a private health insurance company, to be able to have access to health care. Medicaid is funded both by the federal government and by the government of an individual state. Typically, … Continue reading

How a Domain Name Could Help Connect Family

Keeping in touch with family members who live far away from you is much easier today, thanks to the internet. Many genealogists use Skype to communicate, and WordPress for their family history blog. A new idea is to purchase a domain name for your family, or for one of your children. What is a domain name? It is a name that is specific to one physical point on the internet. It is also called an IP address. Typically, a company that is setting up a website will try and buy a domain name that has something to do with the … Continue reading

Looking Back at 2011

In just about 48 hours we will close the book on 2011. However, before you make like Wal-Mart and start working on Valentine’s Day preps, now is a good time to look back on the year that was. Creating year in review layouts is a tradition for me. I love selecting memorable moments from the last 365 days and putting them together in a classic page design. Since the passage of time is a vital part of any New Year’s celebration, consider using time-related embellishments in your layout. For example, I recently printed out an image of a large clock … Continue reading
