My Baby Has Started Hitting

My little guy is almost 14 months old. In almost all aspects of my life, he is pure joy. I could do without the sleepless nights we are still having, and the screaming, but for the most part, I love him just like he is. Except for one little nasty habit he has started. Hitting. Really? I don’t remember either of my other two doing this at this age. Maybe time heals all wounds and I have just forgotten? But, in all seriousness, I felt kind of sad about it, and have been wondering what to do. After all, he … Continue reading

What are Your 2013 Genealogy Resolutions?

Typically, a New Year’s Resolution involves a goal that you intend to work toward in order to improve your life in the year ahead. Have you ever made a genealogy related New Year’s Resolution? If so, are you working on it, (or have you already given up that goal)? In the time that I have been writing for the Genealogy blog at Families.com, I’ve made a couple of genealogy resolutions at the start of the year. So far, I have completely abandoned all hope of achieving each one of them rather quickly, and have yet to reach those goals (whatever … Continue reading

A Bit of Genealogy Humor

Genealogy is fun, and there are even moments where you may have a hard time controlling your laughter as you piece together your family tree. Don’t worry, it’s okay to laugh a little along the way – unless you are in the library doing research. Everybody knows that you are not supposed to laugh in the library. In fact, I do not frequent libraries because inevitably, every time I do, I have a funny thought and have to run outside before I burst out laughing and disturb the silence. I have no idea why this happens, it just does. Laughter … Continue reading

Reduce Your Stress for Your Baby’s Health

Recent research conducted at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical Center revealed that stress during pregnancy increases the child’s risk for asthma. Stress in the mother triggers an immune response, evidenced in the cord blood collected at birth, possibly later heightening their response to inhaled antigens. It stands to reason, therefore, that reducing stress during pregnancy can only have a positive effect on both the baby and the mother. Most of us immediately want to remove the source of the stress. Sometimes it is simple enough as hiring a babysitter for a few hours or telling someone to mind … Continue reading

Getting Ready for a New Baby

We’re getting ready for two new babies to arrive. One will be a cousin, my daughter’s first cousin. Since she’s an only child, she is especially excited since this is the first time she’s experienced the birth of a new family member. Of course, she’s not really experiencing it- her cousin will be born in a time zone about 13 hours away! The other baby is the baby of a lovely friend, and that baby should be born today. We’ve had the birds and the bees talk. In fact, we’ve had it ad infinitum around here. My daughter would be … Continue reading

Hysterically Funny Baby Videos

Ok, it’s time for some weekend fun! Who’s up for some funny baby videos? The sad and difficult scandal of the Balloon Boy has brought to light a lot of the undertones of our fame-seeking society. Yet amidst the people who are trying to get famous, there are some funny videos that have gone viral. Some of these videos predate Youtube – they have been around for so long that some of the babies are now nearly ten years old! Others are not quite as old, but they’re just as funny. So hold onto your chair and turn down the … Continue reading

What’s in a Name? Naming Your Baby After Someone Else

When we were searching for a baby name, the most difficult thing to juggle was the connotation that each name brought forth. My husband and I both teach, and so we’ve encountered just about all of the common names worn by many, many different children. As each name came up, it came with connotations from years gone by. Can’t name her Brianne…it reminds me of someone who tormented me in school. Alana? Kids with that name are always jokers, and since our child will be a model of perfection, well, that name’s out. And wasn’t there a 1980s star who … Continue reading

Baby Tease

One of the most fun parts of being pregnant is shopping for cute baby clothes. It’s fun to shop for baby clothes even when you are not pregnant! Regardless of whether you are shopping for your own new arrival or someone else’s bundle, you can make custom baby clothes that will impress (or humor) everyone that comes in contact with the baby. All you need is a little creativity, some plain white onesies, an iron, a computer with a printer, and iron-on transfer paper. To get started, look for inspiration. What makes you laugh? What are you naming your baby? … Continue reading

Star Update: Kimora Simmons’ New Baby, Jackie Chan’s New Movie and John Mayer’s New TV Gig

It took about four months, but Kimora Lee Simmons finally got her wish–she is pregnant with Djimon Hounsou’s baby. The happy couple just announced that they are expecting their first child together. The 33-year-old fashion diva already has two daughters, Ming Lee, 8, and Aoki Lee, 6, with her former hip-hop mogul husband Russell Simmons, whom she officially divorced in 2008. Kimora met Djimon in February 2007 and last summer she announced to the world that she and her hunky boy toy were trying to get pregnant. Apparently, their practicing paid off. JACKIE CHAN’S NEW MOVIE Move over Pat Morita, … Continue reading
