Benefit Sale for the United Way

world of disney

In some ways working as a Disney blogger has hurt my love of the company. Researching Disney in order to write more about it has clued me in to some corporate practices that I just don’t like. But I try not to talk about that too often; for all that I don’t want to just blindly praise everything Disney does, I don’t want to be a downer all the time.

I’m really excited, then, about a post I just saw on the official Disney Parks blog. On November 6, Downtown Disney will host a benefit sale to support the United Way. Those who arrive at Downtown Disney on November 6 between 5:30 and 9:30 a.m. ready to shop with their benefit vouchers will receive special sales and deals on a variety of Disney merchandise and other offers.

To get in on the event you need to purchase a $5 voucher from the Heart of Florida United Way or any of its partner agencies. The entire $5 cost of the voucher goes directly to the United Way.

For the next step, all you need to do is show up at Downtown Disney on November 6 with your voucher in hand, and you’ll find several special shopping deals waiting just for you. While many of the sale details are forthcoming, or being kept secret until the day of the event, the Parks blog does have information on a few.

Discounts on certain items range from 50-75% on stores such as World of Disney, Disney Days of Christmas, and Once Upon A Toy. Specialists from Epcot’s World Showcase for Dior, Pucci, and more will offer discounts on their merchandise. And that just scratches the surface of what’s available on Downtown Disney’s Benefit Day.

Leading up to the event execs at Downtown Disney will release some more details on the many sales offered that day. Keep an eye on the Benefit Sale website to learn more as it becomes available.

I really love that Disney’s supporting the United Way. I’m not much of a shopper myself, even for Disney merchandise, but I can definitely get behind the sentiment. Although I do think that Disney could be doing more. Maybe they could slightly raise the cost of the voucher, even to just $10. I have a feeling those getting ready to splurge at the event’s many sales will spend a lot more than that, so why not give further to the United Way?

Or instead, why not have some of the proceeds from the Benefit Sale also go to the United Way? In light of all the money Downtown Disney will surely make on November 6, the $5/voucher for the United Way seems measly.

But I said at the beginning of this article that I didn’t want to dwell too much on being a downer and criticizing Disney all of the time, so although I think Disney could do more, I still think it’s fantastic that they’re doing anything at all.

Even though, like I said, I’m not a shopper, if I were in the Orlando area on November 6 I would definitely attend. Maybe if the Benefit Sale brings in enough purchases for Downtown Disney, park execs will be encouraged to hold similar events in the future.
