Benefits of Treadmills and Elliptical Exercisers

Fitness

Going to the gym is not my thing.  And I always crack up whenever I drive past the clubs with the large windows, where you can see people walking on treadmills.

For some reason, sweating seems like something that should be done in private.  But maybe that’s just me.

At the same time, I’m not the type of person to fork out a lot of money on gym equipment.  Especially if there is the chance I won’t stick to it.  But a few years ago I made a worthwhile investment when I purchased a treadmill.

Notice that I didn’t say worthwhile “purchase,” I said investment.  Because the reality is that whenever you do spend money on something that makes you healthier, you are investing in something important.

Have I remained committed to using that treadmill through the past few years?  Not always.  But when I stop using it to hang clothes on and I come back to it, I am always glad it’s there.

Take the past few months, where the temperatures have been too cold for walking outdoors.  I love being able to hop up on my treadmill and read a book while I walk.

So although machines like treadmills or elliptical exercisers can cost some money, they are always worth it.  At the same time, you don’t want to spend extra on features that you may never use (which tend to increase the price of them).  As an example, I have never measured my heart rate.

If you are looking to invest in your health, then you might consider putting aside some funds to save up for a treadmill.  They have many advantages such as convenience, choice of speeds, can usually be stored up or away and oftentimes allow you to customize your workout.

Another machine with benefits is the elliptical exerciser.  You tend to get better results with the forward and backward motions and it provides more of an overall body workout.
