Big is Out and Goldblum is In

Actor Chris Noth—-best known for his role as Mr. Big in the “Sex and the City”—-is saying so long to “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” Noth’s departure makes way for the introduction of Jeff Goldblum’s new character. According to show producers, Goldblum recently agreed to star in the show, which was picked up for a 16-episode eighth season by USA Network.

“Criminal Intent,” is part of the “Law & Order” franchise that includes the original series and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Noth has been with “Criminal Intent” for the past three seasons playing New York police Detective Mike Logan. Noth played Logan on the original NBC series from 1990 to ’95, in a “Law & Order” TV movie and then on “Criminal Intent” starting in 2005.

“The last few years have been fantastic, and both sides are happy with the result. All’s well that ends well,” Noth said.

The tall dark-haired actor was a member of the “Law & Order” family from the start, show producers noted and “he will be missed.”

But apparently not for long, because while producers are sad to see Noth go they say they are thrilled to have Goldblum add a “new dimension to an already successful show.”

Goldblum comes to the show after recently starring in the short-lived NBC series “Raines.” Though he is probably better known for his work into big screen blockbusters such as “Jurassic Park,””The Lost World,””Independence Day” and “The Fly.” He also received an Academy Award nomination in 2005 for the live-action short film “Little Surprises.”

You can catch Goldblum on “Criminal Intent” Sundays on USA. The series originally aired on NBC, but when the network decided that last season’s schedule had room for only two of the shows a deal was struck to air “Criminal Intent” first on USA, then on NBC. (NBC and USA are corporate cousins within NBC Universal.) “Criminal Intent,” also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian.
