A Busy Week For The Royal Family

It’s been a busy week for Britain’s royal family and quite an emotional roller coaster ride for Prince William and Prince Harry. Whenever I hear news relating to Diana, Princess of Wales I am immediately taken back to the afternoon of August 31, 1997 when I heard the news that rocked the world and changed their lives forever. This week the official British police inquiry into the death of Princess Diana was made public, but that wasn’t the only event the young princes had to contend with.

As I mentioned earlier, a few days ago an 832-page report (the result of a three-year, $7 million investigation, during which four hundred people were interviewed) detailing the British police’s inquiry into Diana’s death was released. Basically it concluded that there is no evidence that the Princess was murdered and that the car crash was a “tragic accident.”

Nearly 10 years after her death the British investigation found:

• The Mercedes carrying Diana and her boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed, was traveling at 61-63 mph when it hit the pillar in the Paris underpass.

• According to interviews with Diana’s doctor and her friends and family, she was not pregnant, as Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, has claimed.

• Diana was not engaged and did not plan to get engaged. However, Fayed had bought a ring for her.

• Tests found that driver Henri Paul, 41, had a blood alcohol level of twice the British legal limit. The report also confirmed that Paul had been a “low-level informative source to the French authorities.”

The release of this information followed on the heels of an announcement made by Prince William and Prince Harry that a massive star-studded memorial concert is being planned in honor of their late mother.

And, finally, just yesterday, a momentous and proud moment for the entire royal clan. The lot of them (including Prince William’s girlfriend, Kate Middleton), watched the heir to the throne graduate from his military academy.

It’s official: William is now commissioned as an officer in the Household Cavalry. He graduated from Sandhurst in front of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and his father, Prince Charles. But it was his William’s girlfriend Kate (widely rumored as the prince’s future fiancée), who reportedly grabbed all the attention. It was the first time she has been a guest of her boyfriend at an official royal engagement with the Queen present.
