A Few Cleaning Tips

I love to find or learn new tips that help make life simpler, so I thought I’d share a few. These tips and tricks will help make cleaning easier:

Lint or Pet Hair on Furnishings

Company is coming. There is pet hair on your sofa, but you cannot find the lint brush. Grab some tape and wrap it around your hand, sticky side out. Brush away hair quickly and throw the tape away. Masking tape or duct tape work great, but Scotch tape will do in a pinch.

Repel Dust

After dusting, wipe surfaces with a fabric softener sheet to diminish static electricity. This helps keep dust from resettling on freshly cleaned surfaces. You can also use furniture polish on surfaces other than wooden furniture. Spray your clean, bathroom countertops with furniture polish to help make them slick so dirt rolls of, keeping it clean longer.

Vinegar

Use vinegar to clean the glass carafe that goes with your coffee maker. You can also run equal parts vinegar and water through the coffee maker to clean inside it. Always run a pot of pure water through afterward before attempting to make coffee. Vinegar also works great for breaking down resin like that found in the bottom of an ashtray. Vinegar can be used in the dishwasher as well. Run the dishwasher empty, on rinse only, after throwing in about 2 cups of vinegar.

Wash up With Water

You can clean many household items with plain water. It works as well as many expensive, specialty products. As Michele informed us previously, many of our favorite cleaning products are made of mostly water anyway. See the following related articles to learn more and to find out which other products contain a high percentage of water:
