A Heart Happy General Conference Weekend

This past weekend was general conference, and it was a lovely weekend full of laziness and spiritual inspiration. I have a bad cold I’ve been battling for a few days, so I was thankful to be able to stay in my PJs and watch conference at home. I had some plans to do a lot of house work, but fortunately, I didn’t do any of it so that I could take it easy since I was sick. It was a blessing in disguise. I was more focused on the talks, and was able to soak up a lot of the spirit that I feel like I desperately need right now.

The past few months of having a new baby in the house have been difficult. I haven’t had a lot of time to myself. More importantly, I haven’t had a lot of time with my husband and other children either. I have been feeling stressed and down about those two things, and feeling like something needed to change, but I wasn’t sure what. To make matters worse, my 3 year old threw a massive tantrum that morning before the sessions started. My husband and I were baffled at what was causing such a huge meltdown over something so little. We needed inspiration and we needed it fast!

I received my inspiration when the first two talks on Saturday seemed to be directed at me. They both talked a lot about the importance of families and child-rearing. I was able to recognize some of my own personal weaknesses at the moment that I know, if I correct, can become strengths. I felt at peace knowing that Heavenly Father was trying to reach out to me and teach me through those talks, and I felt grateful to be a part of such a wonderful church that has a living prophet, apostles, and other inspired leaders.

By no means was my weekend “perfect”, but I was able to make the most of it. I was thrilled to see that my two older children (5 and 3) were ecstatic to see the prophet speak! My three year old even knows his name. This, and all of the other spiritual moments I had over the weekend, make my heart happy. I can’t wait to re-read the talks and share my thoughts on them in the upcoming month with all of you.
