A Review of “A Quiet Heart” by Patricia T. Holland

“A Quiet Heart” by Patricia T. Holland is a beautiful book of peace that will help anyone who reads it. It is a book that stood out to me in the catalogue for a year before I purchased it. When I finally did get it, I wished that I bought when I first felt that I should. Patricia T. Holland is the wife of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. The book is written for women and talks of the ways that women can find peace in their lives.

Sister Holland understands the struggles that women face and throughout the book she shares the experiences that she has struggled with as well. She illustrates her points with personal experiences from her life as well as from the lives of other Latter-day Saint women. Throughout the book Sister Holland seeks to build up the efforts that you are making in your own life.

The book truly focuses on how to improve your relationship with your Heavenly Father. She applies this to all areas of your life in a simple and concise way. Her words are positive and they lead to self-reflection, which will help you to find peace in your heart and life. One example of what she says is:

“We need to simplify and spiritualize and celestialize. If most of what we are doing doesn’t fit these categories, if at least some portion of our day is not turned to heaven, then we have a wrenching, rending emptiness awaiting us—isolation of the first order—and we will find no cloak of charity with which to protect or ourselves or our sisters. We simply have to see what we can eliminate, what we can replace with something higher and holier, more reflective, compassionate, and eternal.”

This is a truly wonderful book. It is one that can be read again over different periods of life. It draws on the scriptures and words of the prophets to teach a way that each of us can find peace. I suggest that you read it.
