One book that I have enjoyed reading is “Too Good to Be True” by Taunia L. Bean. This is the story of two girls who grew up together as best friends. Julia has always been very focused on school. She has her goals in life set out before her, and she is determined to get what she wants. This begins to change after she meets Ben. He is a fun loving good looking guy who manages to distract her from her studies long enough for her to fall in love with him. She has a difficult time trying to decide between pursuing her education or getting married. She comes to a point where she must choose which way to go.
Morgan has always been the center of attention. She loves to flirt and spend time with boys. While she is attending college her focus is anywhere but on her studies. She is writing to a missionary, Elder Aaron Jenner, who she genuinely cares for, but she is not going to let that stand in the way of having some fun. After she and Julia get into a fight, she tries to lure Ben away from Julia. This shatters her friendship with Julia. Shortly after this she begins casually dating an old mission companion of Aaron’s. He writes to him to apologize for falling in love with Morgan. Aaron writes to Morgan and breaks off any relationship that they have. Morgan finds herself completely alone with only herself to blame. Morgan learns that she must make some serious changes in her behavior if she ever hopes to have a friend again.
This was an enjoyable book. I enjoyed the different threads that were woven throughout the plot. The story is well told, and you are left unsure of what will happen until the very end. Taunia L. Bean does an excellent job bringing her characters to life. She also is very good at describing the emotional situations that each person is in. I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially to high school and college age readers.
