A Surprise Split and a Planned Wedding

SURPRISE SPLIT

So much for those pregnancy rumors…

US Weekly is reporting that actors Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams have split.

According to the magazine, the pair who met on the set of “Brokeback Mountain” in 2005, “quietly and amicably split a few weeks ago.”

Sources close to the couple say their relationship has been “rocky” for a while, but they tried to make it work for the sake of their 23-month-old daughter Mathilda. Unfortunately, the pair’s pals tell the magazine that Ledger and Williams simply “grew apart” and decided it would be best if they separated.

The couple is not married (though they have been engaged since Williams became pregnant with Mathilda in 2005), but shared a home together in Brooklyn, New York. Currently, Ledger is in California shooting a new movie while Williams is shooting a new film in New York. Mathilda, meanwhile, has been flying back and forth with a nanny to see her parents on opposing coasts.

Were you surprised to hear they split? I was. Though, looking back, perhaps I overlooked the obvious clue–no desire to set a wedding date. Hmmm…

PLANNED WEDDING

Sharing a much happier moment in time is talk show host Byron Allen (remember him from TV’s “Real People”). According to PEOPLE Magazine, the 46-year-old married producer Jennifer Lucas yesterday in Los Angeles.

The blonde beauty of a bride reportedly wore a wedding gown by Carolina Herrera and exchanged vows with her groom in front of 120 family members and friends including Natalie Cole and Eddie Murphy, on a lawn at the Bel Air Hotel.

The couple chose to have a red-themed reception featuring thousands of red roses. Guests dined on red lobsters and drank Red Bull mixed libations. One item that was noticeably not red was dessert–a five-tiered cake with two flavors–-vanilla cake with dark chocolate filling and dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling.

The couple met in April 2001, were engaged last year in Hawaii, and say now that they have finally tied the knot they “can’t wait to have a family.”
