A Touch of Celebrity In Your Kitchen

Have you ever dreamed of having Food Network star Emeril Lagasse make an appearance in your kitchen? What about “Southern Cooking Queen,” Paula Deen or celebrity chef Bobby Flay? Unless we were to win a Food Network contest I’m not sure how any of us would get any one of the aforementioned culinary wizards to step into our kitchens. However, all is not lost. There is a way you can get the essence of the cooks in your home.

Kohl’s department stores just announced that it will be carrying Food Network-branded pots, pans and kitchen gadgets, in addition to the wares designed by specific celebrity chefs, including Emeril. Kohl’s says it will sell cutlery, table linens, pantry ware and other items with the popular cable network’s brand. In addition, Food Network’s celebrity chefs will be involved in marketing the products, and the company says the chefs who don’t currently have their own unique lines, could be getting them as a part of the new launch. The Food Network items will debut in Kohl’s department stores and online starting next fall.

My friend just received an entire Emerilware Stainless Cookware set as a wedding gift and says she is pleased with its performance. I would expect nothing less given that it has Emeril’s name attached. However, I registered for and received a 12-piece Le Creuset cookware set for my wedding and have also been very happy with the product. Which makes me wonder if the fact that a celebrity chef’s name is attached to a certain item (especially if said chef has had a hand in designing the item or items) if it is that much better than other brand name cutlery or cookware?

As I said, I am very fond of my Le Creuset cookware (and frankly recommend it to any home cook), even though it is not personally endorsed by famous chefs (though I have seen used on a number of Food Network shows). I don’t have any celebrity chef cookware in my kitchen. However, I must admit after seeing celebrity chef Ming Tsai illustrate how well his ceramic knives perform on various food items, I have thought about purchasing a set. The knives are made by a company called Kyocera, which offers an entire cutlery line, which, naturally is now endorsed by Tsai himself.

Do you own celebrity chef cookware? Do you think it outperforms traditional cookware?
