Adoption Related Music and Songs

adoption songsDuring my entire search for my biological mother, I found great comfort in music. In fact, I’ve always taken great comfort in music. Music has a way of making even the worst situations, move you to a place where there is comfort and peace. Lifting your spirit, music encompasses your entire soul. In my search for my biological mother, and the during the subsequent reunion, I found a peace with what I now call, adoption songs.

When I was searching for my biological mother, I made my own music tapes of songs that reminded me of my search – now called adoption songs. “Right Here Waiting for You” by Richard Marx and “Somewhere Out There” by Linda Ronstadt were two of my favorites. I listened to the tape whenever I got discouraged, and felt like I was hitting walls. I still sometimes play them and think back to that time.

But after awhile I realized I wanted something more beyond these adoption songs. I wanted lyrics that were based on after the reunion. Songs for after I had found what I was looking for. I had now tasted that little bit of connection and I was ready to move beyond the searching adoption songs and focus on the reunion adoption songs. Songs like “The Search Is Over” by Survivor and “In This Life” by Collin Raye were two of my favorites on that CD. I made a copy of that CD and gave it to my biological mother to take home with her after our week long reunion.

She told me it was the most amazing gift. She had never heard those songs in the light I was giving them to her. They touched her in ways she didn’t know possible. It was beautiful.

Here is a great list of some PERFECT songs for adoption. All aspects of the triad are covered. If you are having trouble and don’t know the song, you can search out the lyrics. You might just find a new favorite song!
