Adventures in Summer Scrapping

left

Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh my!

Nothing says summer scrapbooking quite like a spread that showcases a family trip to the zoo.

It’s memory book-making at its finest… and easiest.

Think about it; unlike some summer adventures, the zoo is loaded with photo opportunities, from snaps of your kids getting up close and personal with penguins to images of Junior taking his first camel ride. An afternoon at the zoo can yield an entire scrapbook of funny and exotic layouts, especially when you pair your favorite pictures with mementos, including maps, ticket stubs, brochures and receipts.

Fortunately, there is no shortage of animal-themed scrapbooking supplies on the market. These days you can choose from a litany of stickers, stamps, and die cuts in the shape of virtually every animal under the sun. Moreover, you can easily embellish your supplies with affordable craft materials to make your page designs pop even more. For example, consider using scraps of fabric to mimic animal fur or place some flocking powder on freehand drawings of chicks or bunnies to add texture and visual interest.

Another way you can add intrigue to your zoo scrapbook is to decorate your layouts with animal print paper. This is a great way to create an attractive background for photos of your kids interacting with exotic animals, including snakes, leopards, zebras and tree frogs. Craft stores and online scrapbooking websites offer an array of patterned paper featuring everything from stripes and spots to scales and dots.

Other design elements that can be incorporated into layouts with very little effort include adding glitter to a page. For example, if you are crafting a page that showcases polar bears or seals, consider making a sparkling winter backdrop using glitter as snow. Next, add your photos to the layout along with die cuts and other embellishments that help enhance the animal’s natural habitat.
