All in the Family

Recently, I haven’t been scrapbooking as much as I would like to. I sigh as I walk past my craft corner and see the mountain of new materials waiting to be unwrapped and used. In addition to the paper and embellishments, I have about 1000 photos to sort and crop.

The bulk of the photos were taken last month during a trip to Hawaii to visit my parents and brothers. I have a plan to create a family scrapbook that highlights the bond my daughter has with my side of the family. However, since I am short on time, I don’t think I will be journaling as much as I usually do. Rather, I am planning to use famous quotes about family relationships to embellish the layouts.

Some people shy away from using famous sayings in their page designs. I am not one of them. I think appropriate quotes can really jazz up a design. What’s more, they are easy to use. Simply print the words in a pretty font and paste them on the page. You can experiment with different size fonts or replace words in your saying with images. I’ve used a heart punch to substitute for the word “love” in a sentence, and it looks great.

So far the quotes I’ve collected for my family scrapbook are sentimental. They include:

“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible–the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family.” Virginia Satir

“Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” Jane Howard

“In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future.” Alex Haley

“The family is one of nature’s masterpieces.” George Santayana

“An ounce of blood is worth more than a pound of friendship.” ~Spanish Proverb

I still want to find some humorous saying to intersperse with the more serious ones, but you get the idea. Have fun with your designs using words that add spice and sentiment.
