At our Stake Conference a week and a half ago, our stake president made some marvelous comments. One in particular stuck with me, and I paraphrase: “Everything we see should remind us of Christ.”
I’ve been thinking about this ever since. How can all things remind us of Christ?
1. He created all nature – trees, mountains, stones, streams, stars, the sun, moon, water, dirt, and us. When we see all of these things, we can remember Him who created all of them, and that will keep our hearts and minds close to Him.
2. He put inspiration into the hearts of men to bring forth electronics, cars, telephones, computers, microwaves – although I’m not so sure He inspired donut factories and shopping malls.
3. He blesses us with what we need every day. He may not have personally created the car that takes us to work, but it is by His grace that we have a car. He helps us in our work so that we can make car payments, and he blesses us even more when we pay tithing before we make the car payment.
4. Many things around us actually symbolize Christ. Just a short list:
He is the light.
He is the rock of our salvation.
He is living water.
He is the bread of life.
His glory is that of the sun.
He is the keystone.
He is a cornerstone.
I could go on for some time, just listing all the parallels we’ve been given in scriptures or through modern revelation.
The fact is, we only have to open our eyes and look around us to see reminders of Christ everywhere. We are alive because of Him. We take breath because of Him. He has given us a hundred different ways every day to remember His blessings and His mercy and goodness toward us – let us be a little more aware of them around us every day.
