Amazing Animal Videos

A while back I wrote about a baby water buffalo who had survived a lion and a crocodile attack –all of which was caught on tape. I was so impressed by that baby water buffalo and his brave herd. (The herd had come back to help save the baby and chased off the lions.) But recently two other amazing animal videos have come to my attention.

Dolphins Try to Save Their Own

On YouTube there are a ton of dolphin rescue videos. Mostly of people saving dolphins, though. There are a couple of dolphins saving whales, but the other day I saw one of the most touching dolphin rescues ever.

Korean scientists caught the attempted rescue on tape in the Sea of Japan. I don’t know if the dying dolphin was sick or hurt (I thought I’d heard something about the dolphin had been attacked by a shark, but I’m not sure about that), but the dolphins swam right along next to the flailing one helping to keep it afloat.

After about an hour, they let the dolphin go, where it sunk for a final time beneath the water and died. It was both the most tender and heart wrenching thing I’ve ever witnessed.

The video’s not on YouTube (that I could find), but if you want to watch the clip, click here to see it on BBC News.

What Was This Dog Thinking?

Okay, so that one was sad and will stick with me like the baby water buffalo video has, but then I saw one that was jaw dropping in another way because it was just so crazy. It was of a dog attacking a shark.

After watching it a couple of times, it’s lost some of its initial shock value, though. I’m not sure how alive the shark even is. (It doesn’t do a whole lot of moving, so either it was tired from fighting being reeled in or it was dead.)

I’m thinking it might have been dead and the people knew the dog would jump out of the boat like it did and drag it to shore. He might have even done it a couple of times but they hadn’t had the video camera ready so they rigged the shark back on the hook to catch the dog doing his thing. (Oh yeah, the shark was on a fishing line when the dog jumps in, snatches it, and paddles to shore with it.)

This video is on YouTube. Click here to see it and decide what you make of it.
