An Easy Way to Start Your Genealogy Blog

laptop Genealogy and technology are two things that are becoming increasingly interconnected. However, not all genealogists are going to be tech savvy enough to know how to get their very own genealogy blog started. MyFamily.com provides an easy way for genealogists to get their own genealogy blog online.

I think that most genealogists are using the internet in order to do their research. Websites like Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, and the National Archives have become extremely popular. It is fairly easy to get started using sites like those to get some genealogy research done, and to add to your family tree.

Problems begin when genealogists decide that they want to create their own genealogy blog. Suddenly, your genealogy work requires you to learn about how WordPress functions. There is a bit of a learning curve involved in figuring out how to include family photos into your new blog. There is also the problem with privacy. If you put a family story onto your new blog, how can you be certain who will end up reading it?

MyFamily.com provides simple solutions for all of these problems. You start by making a personal profile on MyFamily.com. It visually resembles a Facebook profile in many ways, so if you are familiar with how that works, you should intuitively understand what you are seeing over at MyFamily. Each of your family members can also make a profile.

Those profiles can be connected into a Family Group. Everyone can share family photos, videos, and even files with each other. The only people who can see the items that are being shared are the people who are connected into your Family Group on MyFamily. There is a section where you can have family discussions, which I think would be useful for organizing a family reunion. It can also be used as a genealogy blog (that the whole family can add to). There is a calendar that you can use to keep track of family birthdays.

It even has a family tree function. MyFamily had teamed up with Ancestry.com to bring their family tree tools to the website. You can actually import a family tree that you created on Ancestry.com into MyFamily.com.

It costs $29.95 per year to use MyFamily. This cost is for family groups, and is not charged to each individual family member within the group. Each member can upload a total of 1GB per month. The website offers an ad-free experience for members.

There are different themes available for you to use if you would like to customize the look of your family group on MyFamily. I think this would be an easy, and inexpensive, way to get your genealogy blog started, (and to securely share it with your family).
