An Interview With A Seasoned Mom of Twins (Plus One)

Today I have a special interview with a mom of preschool twins and a baby. Lulu from Chicagoland has been a stay at home mom for five years and was gracious enough to take a break from her busy routine (at 10:30pm no less) to answer some questions about the differences between raising twins and a singleton.

KN: Which was harder, being 8 months pregnant with twins or 9 months pregnant with your baby?

Lulu: Definitely 9 months pregnant with the baby.

KN: Really?

Lulu: Yes, because being pregnant with the twins, I was on bed rest and didn’t have anything else or anyone else to keep up with.

KN: How long were you on bed rest with the twins?

Lulu: Four months. Drove me nuts! There is only so much TV you can watch and so many books to read.

KN: When you had your baby, were you surprised by how much work (or how much less work) it was to take care of a single baby?

Lulu: Very surprised. With one, if she is hungry, you feed her. Sleepy? Put her to bed. When there are two, they are always on different schedules. You finish with one and you move right on to the other. By the time you finish with the second baby, it’s time to start all over with the first one.

KN: Did you have a lot of help with the twins when they were first born? How long did it take you to find your groove as a new mom of twins?

Lulu: I did at first, for about two weeks, then I figured it out on my own. When you have two babies at once, you quickly figure out your groove. You have to, or it’s going to be very stressful!

KN: What is one piece of advice you would offer to new moms of multiples?

Lulu: Try to stay calm and focused on the babies. It’s easy to get overwhelmed very quickly. Don’t think ahead, focus on what’s happening right in the moment.
