Hi Everyone, My name is Pattie and I’ve been hired to write the Pregnancy Blog on Families.com. I am very excited about this assignment, as pregnancy is something that is very near and dear to my heart.
I have three children and recently found out that we are expecting baby #4 in July. It feels very fitting that I am beginning my journey into my fourth pregnancy at the same time I am beginning my journey into this blog.
On my journey to motherhood, I have been through nearly every conceivable situation. My husband and I got married nearly fourteen years ago, and we knew right away that we wanted children. So, we started to try right away for our first.
To our dismay, it took us 6 years to have our first baby girl. I had 2 miscarriages, but no baby. During those 6 years, I found out I had endometriosis and went through laser surgery. After that, I spent a few more years trying to get pregnant. We were then sent to a Reproductive Endocrinologist and went through 4 months of artificial insemination along with Humagon, an injectible fertility drug. Finally, we were pregnant.
Our journey was just beginning. As soon as I got pregnant, I suffered a reaction that is fairly common with injectible fertility medications called Ovarian Hyperstimulation. We nearly lost our precious daughter. I was put on bed rest for 6 weeks and everything turned out great. In June 1998, we welcomed our first daughter into the world.
We decided we wouldn’t go through all those interventions again. If I got pregnant, we would be thrilled, but if I didn’t we felt complete with our little girl. To our surprise, just after her first birthday, we discovered we were pregnant again. Our second daughter was born in March 2000. Another girl followed in October 2002.
Everything seemed perfect and all my fertility troubles seemed solved, until last year. We unexpectedly became pregnant again, but this one ended in a miscarriage in the 11th week. I was devastated. After 3 healthy babies, I couldn’t believe I was having my 3rd miscarriage! We found out a few weeks ago that I am pregnant again. I am nearly 10 weeks and hoping for the best this time.
So, I’ve been through nearly every aspect of pregnancy, the good and the bad. If anyone has any suggestions or a topic that you really want to read about, please let me know. Pregnancy is a mysterious and amazing time and I am so excited to be writing this blog.
